Fly-infested food scraps. Mountains of trash looming over our communities, set to sit there for eternity. As a society, we keep landfills out of sight and out of mind. But they’re there – and the decomposing junk releases methane gas into the atmosphere, SUPER-HEATING our planet and POLLUTING our communities! Now, the U.S. Treasury Department and the IRS might subsidize landfill gas, trash incinerators, and other sources of dirty gas with funds meant to support clean energy! Friend, don’t let the fossil fuel lobbyists fool you – these energy sources pollute just like fossil fuels! [Tell the U.S. Treasury to REJECT subsidies for dirty gas and instead fund clean energy! We need 2,194 more signatures by 11:59pm TONIGHT to hit our goal, Friend! >>]( [Sign the petition]( Landfill gas collection actually incentivizes INCREASING landfill emissions rather than reducing them. Do you want the stinking piles of garbage in our communities to create more pollution, or less? But it’s not just landfills. These new subsidies could be used to support toxic factory farms that MISTREAT workers, POLLUTE nearby communities, and ABUSE animals. They also might support directly burning trash or our forests! Subsidizing greenwashed methane gas won’t do anything to help protect our planet. In fact, it will only further entrench the domination of giant fossil fuel corporations and landfills as our planet bakes! But we’re RUNNING OUT OF TIME before the U.S. Treasury implements these subsidies!
