[Donate another amount]( America has declared war on vulnerable grizzlies. Just last spring, a team of Alaskan hunters loaded up their helicopters with weapons – and within a month, they gunned down 94 grizzly bears from above. The scene was gruesome: cubs watching their mamas get pummeled by bullets – bears fleeing in all directions, desperate to escape certain death. After 21 days, 11 defenseless cubs lay dead. [Without action, this scene will repeat itself. It can’t come to that. Please, donate $10 today and help us reach our $6,500 goal before midnight tonight to help us protect vulnerable wildlife and our planet before it’s too late.]( It may shock you to learn that this massacre was ordered by the Alaska Fish & Game Department. Even worse, not a single scientist sat on the board that made the call. Instead, it was trophy hunters and trappers that made the irresponsible decision to gun down every grizzly in sight. Now, these same interests want to make decisions for grizzlies in the lower 48 states, too. Together with extremist politicians, bloodthirsty hunters are attacking the Endangered Species Act protections that are keeping grizzlies safe. If they win, we could see this slaughter repeat itself with more helicopter chases, vicious hunting dogs, and even baits and traps that would leave precious grizzlies suffering for days on end. At Friends of the Earth, we refuse to sit by while our wildlife pays the price for hunters’ sick desire to watch animals die. These deaths are preventable – and we still have the chance to make real change and protect our wildlife and our planet. The attacks on our nation’s grizzlies must end. Human-driven habitat loss and excessive hunting and trapping have decimated their numbers. Today, grizzly habitats continue to shrink. Their food sources are increasingly hard to find. And climate change is driving them closer to the brink of extinction. As a result, fewer and fewer cubs are surviving to reach adulthood. And adult bears are dying at alarming rates, too. That’s why a hunt like this in either the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem or North Cascades could wipe out grizzly bears forever. Without adequate ESA protections, trophy hunters could be allowed to kill grizzlies indiscriminately, and with no consequences. And once grizzlies are driven out of their lands, Big Polluters will swoop in. They have hopes to open these lands up for mining, logging, and other planet-harming practices. That would destroy any hope of recovery for grizzlies – including reintroduction to their historic range. Friend, it’s clear that we could lose grizzlies without urgent action. Plain and simple, they can’t afford to lose their life-saving protections. And our planet can’t afford it, either. That’s why we’ve set our $6,500 midnight goal to fight back against these vicious attacks on our nation’s wildlife. Will you fight with us today to help strengthen the Endangered Species Act and protect vulnerable wildlife and the planet while there’s still time to act? Please, donate $10 or more by midnight tonight to help us reach our $6,500 goal before grizzlies are wiped off the face of the Earth. That’s why it’s so important that grizzlies remain protected under the Endangered Species Act. These laws don’t just protect bears, though. They provide critical protection for America’s species and the lands they roam. They’re also some of our most effective safeguards against the same fossil fuel companies that further climate change profiting off killing critical species. At Friends of the Earth, we’re fighting to strengthen the Endangered Species Act and all of the wildlife that depends on it. We've collected thousands of comments from supporters just like you urging our leaders to protect this vital legislation. And with your help, we’re pushing back against attacks on the Endangered Species Act and the greedy corporations that want to dismantle it. But the fight is far from over, Friend. Your membership support to Friends of the Earth today will help fuel our work to push back against these private interests aiming to weaken the ESA in order to hunt down vulnerable species like bears, wreaking havoc on their environments, and contributing to the ecological destruction on our planet. Join the fight for our planet and precious wildlife before they are hunted to extinction, and make your $10 membership contribution today! Grizzlies are hanging on by a thread. Rush your $10 donation to fight for wildlife and our planet and help us reach our $6,500 goal by midnight TONIGHT!
