Where is all the Chinook salmon, your primary source of food, once plentiful but now vanishing? With salmon runs dwindling to half of their historic numbers, these majestic creatures are left starving to death, unable to find enough food to sustain themselves, let alone support new life. Their plight is dire: without sufficient nourishment, they cannot sustain pregnancies or care for newborns. The future of the Southern Resident orcas hangs in the balance, dependent on our immediate action to restore Chinook salmon populations. Corporate overfishing has spiraled out of control, driven by greed and neglecting the ecosystem's delicate balance. The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) must intervene to rein in these greedy companies if we’re going to replenish Chinook salmon stock enough so that orcas can survive. But the agency won’t move without enough public support, so we’re asking for your action today: [Tell NMFS to STOP corporate overfishing from threatening endangered orcas by taking their food source away! >>]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( We aren’t exaggerating when we talk about the fragile state of orcas, Friend. Currently at their lowest population in over 50 years, these iconic marine mammals are in danger of going extinct — and the lack of salmon has had particularly dramatic impacts for the species being unable to produce enough new offspring and rebound its numbers. It’s a fact that most orca pregnancies end in miscarriages, and the ones that do have a successful birth, the majority of those baby orcas don’t make it through their first year… Orcas are social creatures that travel in pods, which are like family to them. Each time a family member dies, orcas experience grief from the loss, which can stress them out and even drive them into further starvation. Orcas have been in this unfortunate cycle for far too long and with no improvements to salmon runs, they are running out of time and hope. But we can’t give up on these beloved sea creatures, Friend. At Friends of the Earth, we know that grassroots advocacy fuels the work we do, and we have seen the powerful impact that activism has on these key environmental issues. But we can’t do any of it without you, so we’re counting on your action today. [Please, will you sign our petition right now to demand an END to corporate overfishing of Chinook salmon and give the remaining endangered orcas a chance at survival?]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Thanks for doing your part in protecting these magnificent creatures and securing a sustainable future for their population.
