Imagine a vast frozen landscape of icy wilderness where polar bears roam freely under the shimmering Northern Lights, and Indigenous communities thrive in harmony with nature. Imagine a vast frozen landscape of icy wilderness where polar bears roam freely under the shimmering Northern Lights, and Indigenous communities thrive in harmony with nature. Now, picture this pristine Arctic paradise slowly decaying like a movie montage: the glacial habitat becoming nothing more than part of the vast ocean, polar bears clinging to floating ice patches, local native tribes facing devastating food shortages and economic instability. What was once a serene, plentiful wonderland has turned into a devoid, scarce wasteland. Tragically, this is exactly the direction that the Arctic is heading towards, Friend. With the icy habitat melting 4x as fast as the rest of the world, experts predict it could be ice-free by the year 2054! And on top of suffering the harshest impacts of climate change, the fragile Arctic region is being pushed even closer to demise by one of the WORST corporate polluters out there: Big Cruise. The billion-dollar cruise industry leaves behind a trail of toxic pollution, harmful emissions, and hazardous waste every time one of its massive vessels comes charging through the sensitive Arctic waters. The results can be catastrophic for vulnerable Arctic species, like endangered polar bears who are already on the BRINK of EXTINCTION — and local native people face the loss of their way of life as their ancestral waters are tainted by cruise pollution. [We must fight back against Big Cruise immediately, Friend. TAKE ACTION: Add your name now to protect the Arctic region and all who call it home from the environmental destruction of cruise pollution! >>]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Cruise ships emit pollutants like sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and particulate matter into the Arctic atmosphere, contaminating the air and causing toxic wastewater pollution that fouls ocean waters. Direct exposure to or ingestion of these pollutants can severely harm polar bears, including eating fish that could be tainted by these dangerous chemicals — further threatening these beloved endangered mammals. Cruise ships also emit massive amounts of CO2 into our atmosphere, EIGHT TIMES MORE CO2 than a land-based vacation, further exacerbating Arctic Sea ice melt. Meanwhile, local Indigenous populations are forced to endure the health risks and safety concerns due to toxic cruise pollution and disruptive activity that also threatens their culture, livelihoods, and economy. Friend, the Arctic and its inhabitants are being EXPLOITED for profit by Big Cruise — and the ONLY way to rein in this powerful, wealthy industry is with government intervention. But the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has failed to protect people, polar bears, and the planet from cruise ship pollution. That’s why we’re calling on 4,127 more activists like you to sign our petition by 11:59 P.M. TONIGHT to help amplify public pressure: [Will you step up right now and DEMAND that the EPA takes action to STOP cruise pollution from destroying the Arctic?]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Thanks for taking action and being a part of the fight, Friends of the Earth Contact Us: Friends of the Earth U.S. Washington, D.C. | Berkeley, CA PO Box 7010 Merrifield, VA 22116-7010 1-877-843-8687 [Contact us](foe.org/about-us/contact/) Email Preferences: [Click here to unsubscribe]( Learn more: www.foe.org/news www.foe.org/about-us www.foeaction.org Connect: [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Flickr]( © 2024, Friends of the Earth.
