URGENT ACTION NEEDED: A recent federal court ruling just OVERTURNED a critical ban on chlorpyrifos — a brain-damaging, bee-killing pesticide that’s threatening our pollinators, public health, and the planet. [Take action now! >>]( Chlorpyrifos is in a class of chemicals known as organophosphates, which were originally developed by the Nazis to be used during World War II. Some were repurposed for agricultural use — and the consequences have been catastrophic. This HIGHLY-TOXIC pesticide is bad for human health and the environment and is pushing some of our most vulnerable pollinators closer to EXTINCTION. It can kill bees on contact, and even low levels of exposure impairs honeybees’ vital functions like memory and learning. If wild bees are totally wiped out, our ecosystems and food supply could crumble. We already know that pollinators are responsible for 1 in 3 bites of food we eat! Chlorpyrifos also poses direct dangers to human health and is especially harmful to children’s early brain development. Recently, a federal court ruled to REVERSE the EPA’s ban on chlorpyrifos, meaning that food produced with this toxic chemical might soon end up in your next meal! Friend, we can’t let the bullies at giant pesticide companies continue to profit from putting people, pollinators, and the planet in danger — so we’re counting on environmentalists like you to help us stand up to Big Pesticide’s corporate greed. [Will you join us in the fight today by signing our petition to BAN CHLORPYRIFOS? Add your name now! >>]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Along with jeopardizing our bees, food system, and public health there are other numerous other harms of chlorpyrifos. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service found that chlorpyrifos threatens more than 1,200 endangered species. We also have clear evidence that it is the leading cause of farmworker poisonings. In just ONE incident, chlorpyrifos was one of the pesticides linked to 50 farmworkers getting sick, and people in neighboring properties even ended up in the hospital! Chlorpyrifos doesn’t just vanish after being used either, Friend. This toxic chemical can stay in our environment for MONTHS and can poison bees up to 24 hours after being sprayed, while the residue can be found in our air, water, and soil. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) knows that chlorpyrifos is dangerous. The EPA’s own scientists said that there are virtually NO SAFE USES of the chemical. We’ve already seen how impactful grassroots action is on this important issue. Together, we successfully got chlorpyrifos banned for agricultural use in 2021 — and we couldn’t have done it without the advocacy of Friends of the Earth members like you, Friend. Now that this crucial ban has been recently overturned, we’re urgently relying on your support again: [TAKE ACTION NOW: Tell the EPA to reinstate its BAN ON CHLORPYRIFOS immediately! >>]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Thank you for taking action, Friends of the Earth Contact Us: Friends of the Earth U.S. Washington, D.C. | Berkeley, CA PO Box 7010 Merrifield, VA 22116-7010 1-877-843-8687 [Contact us](foe.org/about-us/contact/) Email Preferences: [Click here to unsubscribe]( Learn more: www.foe.org/news www.foe.org/about-us www.foeaction.org Connect: [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Flickr]( © 2017, Friends of the Earth.
