Eastern monarch migratory butterfly populations were down nearly 60% this past winter. These treasured monarchs embark on a journey south to Mexico every winter. But this year, less than half the number as last year made the journey. A key culprit in this mess? Big Polluters like Bayer that pump out toxic products like Roundup. A key ingredient in this weedkiller is glyphosate – which is toxic to milkweed, the only plant where monarchs lay eggs. More than 800 million milkweed plants have disappeared in the United Sates over the last two decades! Monarchs can't survive without milkweed – it's the only food source for baby monarch caterpillars. If we don't act quickly, we risk losing these monarchs to extinction! Despite having all of this information before them, Big Pesticide companies continue to refuse to pull Roundup off the market. And it's not just monarchs who are at risk: Roundup can severely harm human health as well. Research has shown that glyphosate is a probable cause of cancer, fatty liver disease, gut microbiome disruption, kidney toxicity and reproductive issues. And right now, 4 in 5 people have glyphosate in their bodies, and the everyday food we eat is a key cause! But year after year, Bayer continues to dodge regulations that could keep humans and pollinators safe, and instead deceives the public and policymakers. Every second of inaction means monarchs, people and the only Earth we'll ever get suffer at the whims of corporate greed. While Bayer continues to increase Roundup production, milkweed plants are being obliterated in the United States, and monarchs can’t survive through the generations like this. We urgently need 12 more activists from your area to speak out before 11: 59 p.m. toni ght – and we're still missing your response!
