Picture this: debris comes crashing down around an orangutan family fleeing in terror, as Indigenous land defenders are hauled off to prison for protecting their land. Metal machines tear through the jungle and flatten the ground to make way for palm oil fields as far as the eye can see. Greedy companies are DESTROYING some of the world’s last great rainforests for profit! They raze these beautiful forests to the ground, often VIOLENTLY FORCING Indigenous people from their homes and illegally seizing their land. Thanks to the leadership of frontline communities and support from activists like you, we pushed the giant corporation Procter & Gamble to cut ties with land-grabbing, forest-destroying companies in Indonesia. We’ve also championed a winning anti-deforestation bill in the New York Legislature. But the trees are still falling – and to truly protect our forests and their inhabitants, we need to step up our game! Friend, I am reaching out to you specifically on International Day of Forests because I know you understand what is at stake. Friends of the Earth is officially launching our Forest Defense Team – and I want you to join us! Signing the Forest Defense Team Pledge makes you a part of a select team who will receive special opportunities to push large corporations and policymakers to end the destruction of our forests. You will be among our top activists – and you’ll receive a special sticker in the mail and a digital certificate! [Friend, click here to read and sign the Forest Defense Team Pledge and help us defend our forests and their inhabitants from corporate greed! >>]( [SIGN THE PLEDGE]( The importance of forests cannot be understated. The Indigenous forest guardians know this. Forests are one of our best defenses against climate change and a refuge for abundant biodiversity found nowhere else in the world. If the corporate assault on global forests continues, all of this is lost. Here’s what we can do with your help: - We’ve successfully pressured several major brands to stop buying from Indonesia’s second largest palm oil company. With your actions we can leverage these companies to protect the affected Indigenous farmers from further abuse – and ultimately get their land back. - In Brazil, we’ve helped pressure one of the world’s largest soybean traders to end its deforestation by 2025. With your social media support during their 2024 shareholder meeting, we can pressure them to stop destroying forests. - When our Deforestation-Free bill, the New York TREES Act, lands on the desk of New York’s governor later this year, calls to her office from our growing team of Forest Defenders will make sure she does the right thing. We can’t win these fights without help from activists like you, Friend. The good news is that we’ve seen our members are more than willing to fight to protect our forests. We hope that means you’re ready to take that to the next level.
