WTI fell almost 13% in its worst weekly decline since April 2020. Oil prices came under pressure amid an increasingly uncertain economic climate. Analysts are less bullish toward oil, with Goldman Sachs saying that it no longer expects oil to reach $100 per barrel. Meanwhile, Exxon's Q1 earnings update next month has already seen analysts revise EPS estimates lower ten times in the last 90 days compared to just five upward revisions. The Fed's rate decision is the key risk event, with the market now pricing in a 62% probability of a 25 bps rate hike and a 38% chance of the Fed keeping policy unchanged. This is a significant turnaround from 10 days ago when the market was expecting a 50 bps hike. • BoE could raise rates by 25 bps to 4.25%, but this is by no means a done deal as the central bank asses the risk of a new financial crisis. UK inflation data is due on Wednesday and is expected to cool to 9.8%YoY. • Eurozone PMI data showed that business activity returned to growth in February, and the composite PMI is expected to tick higher again in March, which could help ease recession fears. Economic data this week • Fed, BoE, SNB rate decisions • UK CPI, German ZEW • Ger. ZEW economic sentiment • UK, EZ & US PMIs Earnings this week • Nike, Tencent, Accenture • General Mills, GameStop • Pinduoduo, Chewy • Darden Restaurants, Smiths [Start Trading](113/cXx8Z04/VX7JkZ1RfvNGW96w5644-b_nMW4lQ0X34YlQRzMXl4nJ2-MK5V1-WJV7CgBfdW3RN6Lc4vpn5rW72jHsH98V87zVZ0h1z6TfNWlVvLnbL6SzRCfN7rjz9BHjS5CW4W8DVm6MTzgjW7qrYLp70LPfNW3hSdXp6J8kQjW5GBtPG5Zzrh5W8Bbz3P8MCmbdW3nqqKT284cf5W6z0LG55R2rCRW8zrvsW4GNClpW4vMgPd4wsV4ZW221ttB1PY-wpW8qvRKY5FpMKsW4-zzlC3Y-dN1VW7RHb2h_lVVW7pd6H45SHPxSW2Mw1TX6J664T3dD41) Market Recap European stocks closed deeply in the red on Friday as jitters over Credit Suisse contagion weighed on sentiment. CS extended losses despite SNB intervention. The Dow closed 400 points lower on Friday, as First Republic and regional banks slid further, reversing Thursday's relief bounce. Lingering concerns over the state of the US banking sector pulled stocks lower, despite a group of banks coming to FRC's aid and depositing $30 billion on Thursday. This morning stocks are pressured as banking crisis fears offset liquidity support. UBS agreed to buy Credit Suisse over the weekend for CHF 3 billion. The historic deal sees UBS get billions in SNB and state support. Chart Of the Day Demand destruction & rising inventories have pulled oil lower. Gold has jumped as the USD weakened amid the stress in the financial sector & on safe flows amid rising uncertainty. Will the historical gap in their price performance recently close? Perhaps so if market fears normalise, or perhaps not if traders' fears materialise in a larger banking crisis.
