The stores will be equipped with a selection of Best Buy merchandise but without large appliances, and will have lockers for pickups of online orders. c - Spotify is increasing its efforts for fiction podcasts with a new leader for scripted fiction content. The startup develops eye-tracking technology that could be used for virtual and augmented reality. VC + Startups 🎯 - Holey Grail Donuts, a startup that began in Hawaii selling its hand-fried, made-to-order donuts using taro as a superfood, raises USD9 million in financing to expand its presence into physical locations in Los Angeles. - Renting Finders, a Madrid-based car rental marketplace startup raises EUR700k in funding to strengthen its digital solution for vehicle renting, making it simpler, cheaper, and more flexible for users. - IDEAL, a startup based in Jakarta operating a platform simplifying the process to apply for a mortgage raises USD3.8 million in funding to be used for product development, hiring and expanding its products. - Lottie, a London-based elderly care startup raises EUR7 million at a EUR52 million valuation. The startup operates a digital marketplace that connects care seekers to the UK's best care homes at a fair price. Crypto 👾 - Ethereum successfully deployed its tenth 'Shadow Fork' in its buildup to the "Merge", scheduled for the 19th of September. c - A Solana-themed store named Solana Spaces is set to open in NY City. Launched in collaboration with the Solana Foundation, the store aims to be educational and to help people get set up with a wallet and NFTs. c - American singer Madonna is reportedly obsessed with a BAYC NFT, the famous NFT collection produced by Yuga Labs. She acquired a BAYC NFT for USD466k back in March but the one she desires (#3756) is listed for USD1.2 million, a price that is too expensive she said. Law and regulation 🕵️ - The FTC has filed suit to block Meta’s purchase of VR fitness app Within. It says it is concerned about Meta’s plans for owning the metaverse. c - Coinbase dropped 20% on Tuesday following reports that it faces an investigation by the SEC about whether the company permitted Americans to trade digital assets that should be registered as securities. Tech leaders which first opted to contribute to carbon neutrality through their own technological innovations could now be responsible for around a quarter of all climate tech funding, although it may vary on what is considered "climate tech".
