Crypto 👾 - The Federal Reserve has decided to maintain its key interest rate, citing the need for greater confidence in inflation moving towards 2%. Bitcoin and Ethereum have experienced slight declines in the past day, but have shown small increases in the past hour. The fear of persistent inflation and the ongoing court battle over Ethereum's regulatory status in the US have contributed to market uncertainty. - The crypto market could see a new wave of adoption with the rise of Real World Asset (RWA) tokenization. RWA protocols have experienced a 60% surge in Total Value Locked (TVL) since February, driven by a preference for debt-based, high-yield investments. These protocols, which include commodities, securities, and real estate tokenization, have seen their TVL reach nearly $8 billion in the past year. Law and regulation 🕵️ - According to a report by the U.K.'s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), crypto firms, along with retail banking, wholesale banking, and wealth management, are considered the highest risk for money laundering between 2022 and 2023. The FCA has been requiring crypto firms to register and comply with anti-money laundering rules since 2020. The report also revealed that the FCA had dedicated financial crime specialists and supervisory teams focused on supervising crypto businesses. - The European Commission has launched an investigation into Meta for allegedly not doing enough to combat disinformation ahead of the EU Parliament elections. Meta is suspected of violating the Digital Services Act by inadequately handling deceptive ads and manipulative behaviors on its platforms, and could face significant fines or operational restrictions in the EU if found non-compliant. Microsoft Azure is closing in, reaching a 25% market share, marking an all-time high. Together with Google, which holds an 11% share, the top three providers now dominate two-thirds of the market. The cloud sector saw a 21% increase in spending over the previous year, with total expenditures topping $76 billion in the first quarter.
