In 2022, Florida legislators came together to expand Medicaid access to pregnant women from 60 days to 12 months to ensure that women across the state have access to comprehensive healthcare before, during, and after pregnancy. However, after the 12-month period, many women and newborn children are still left uninsured as too many Floridians remain stuck in a “coverage gap” where their household income is too high to qualify for Medicaid but too low to afford private health insurance.
