Maternal mortality rates across the country are rising at an alarming rate, with the number of women

Maternal mortality rates across the country are rising at an alarming rate, with the number of women dying during pregnancy nearly doubling over the past two decades. {NAME}, Maternal mortality rates across the country are rising at an alarming rate, with the number of women dying during pregnancy nearly doubling over the past two decades. In 2022, Florida legislators came together to expand Medicaid access to pregnant women from 60 days to 12 months to ensure that women across the state have access to comprehensive healthcare before, during, and after pregnancy. Not only that but over 60% of the $240 million cost to expand Medicaid was covered by the federal government with money that we already pay in taxes! However, after the 12-month period, many women and newborn children are still left uninsured as too many Floridians remain stuck in a “coverage gap” where their household income is too high to qualify for Medicaid but too low to afford private health insurance. Expanding access to Medicaid in Florida would improve health outcomes for ALL Floridians and stimulate our economy by creating jobs, saving taxpayer money, and bringing our hard-earned taxpayer dollars back to Florida to invest in our communities.
