Hope you've had an amazing day so far! Almost every morning my wife Melissa and I go for a walk after the kids are dropped off at school. This is where we get motivated to tackle the day by listening to podcasts, talking to each other and getting our steps in. This morning she shared with me a fascinating story and I thought it was worth to share with you! She is reading a book on mindset and productivity and one analogy that she read today was about an ordinary housefly. You probably have seen a housefly get trapped at a window trying to escape. The outside is right there but no matter how hard he works and pushes against it, he will never make it through. But if the fly just changed it's direction slightly, it would realize that the door is open 10 foot away and could just fly out with minimal effort. So many times we put so much effort into making progress, but feel like we aren't going anywhere. Maybe we are going in circles because we aren't focused on the right things that move the needle to grow your income from your flipping business. I know I'm guilty of this so it was pretty cool to hear this analogy. 10 years ago I was doing home inspections for an insurance company and Melissa was working with her personal training clients - while we flipped items as a side hustle and had a toddler and a newborn at home. It was busy to say the least - but we were trying to make it all work. Our flipping side hustle was the thing that really kept us afloat during that time. Then we decided to go all in. Both of us quit our jobs and we took our flipping gig from $42,000 ($33K net) as a side hustle to $133,000 ($103K net) the following year! It was still crazy, but we were focused on bigger goals and it's how we developed our high profit/low volume business model that gives us more time (and allows us to take walks every morning together).
