The reason I can say this with such emphasis is because I happen to know people who’ve had remarkable results with keto, not only in their weight management, but their overall health as well. Here’s why it works so well. Your body naturally produces something called “ketones” which are chemicals formed as a byproduct of your liver when its burning fat. The Ketogenic Diet actually makes your body switch from using carbohydrates as energy, to using fat, which in turn makes your body produce ketones or “ketone bodies” that it can use for fuel. It’s not some kind of fad either, it’s based in proven science and evidence going back to the early 20th century. It was originally created in 1923 by Dr. Russell Wilder from the Mayo Clinic. He developed it as a nutritional treatment plan for people with epilepsy. It stands to reason that a nutritional plan created for epilepsy would logically improve brain function in people without a brain impairment. - Ketosis helps moderate blood sugar and insulin. Studies have proven that a low carbohydrate diet can help lower blood sugar and help moderate insulin. In fact, some studies have shown that on starting a low carb or ketogenic diet people taking medication for their blood sugar had to cut their dosage in half! (And insulin is important, more on that in just a second)  So, there you have it. There is a wealth of other health benefits you can reap from the Keto Diet as well… which brings us back to my original question, if it’s so great, and has all these benefits… Why isn’t everyone doing the Keto Diet? It all comes down to this… Humans love carbs. Mmmm. Imagine your favorite guilty pleasures for me for a minute.
