Born in London to an Anglo-Irish landlord, Constance Georgina Gore-Booth became the first woman to be elected into the British House of Commons when she became a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament) in the 1918 election. During the Rising, Constance was a Lieutenant of the Irish Citizen Army before she was arrested in December 1920 as a member of Fianna Eireann, who were accused of assisting and promoting crime and murder. She was sentenced to two years in prison and details of her activities and arrest can be found in a military intelligence report from the series "Events of Easter Rising week" (WO35/69).
