My fight for reproductive freedom is personal

I am that champion. I am at the forefront of our fight to enshrine gender equality into the Constitution — including our right to bodily autonomy — by finally publishing the Equal Rights Amendment. At 17, I was assaulted and then had an abortion. It was devastating. I was devastated again 30 years later when Republican extremists overturned Roe v. Wade. But I’ve turned my hurt into action: defending access to abortion care, organizing to expand the Supreme Court, and working with President Biden to protect abortion rights. For me, the fight for our reproductive freedoms is personal – and urgent.
