There's a cheesy phrase I've said for years that's served me well: "The How is Not for Now." I normally say it in reference to goal setting. Just decide WHAT you want. Don't worry about the how. The how will figure itself out if your conviction on the WHAT is strong enough. The way to have a strong conviction on the WHAT is to have a powerful WHY. Don't set goals just to set goals. Set them because they MATTER to you. Now back to the HOW. People get way too fixated on how they're gonna do a thing. "I wanna make $10,000 a month online but I don't know how." Other people have done it. That means you can. But most people let the how stop them before they even start. I personally don't worry about the how until the moment I need to. I just know with 100% certainty that I will achieve a thing in my life that has a powerful enough WHY. I don't allow self doubt or the complexities of HOW get in the way. I know the destination. I don't know the path. But I do know that the path will reveal itself as I walk it. I think it was MLK Jr that said "faith is taking the first step when you can't see the entire staircase." Self belief is the same. You have to see something that has happened yet, yet act as though it's an inevitable future reality. Now I want to bring this back to the weird visualization technique stuff I was talking about the other day in Backstreet Boys story. Quick recap: I recently started practicing a new technique is called Scripting. I learned it from an obscure book called Reality Creation and Manifestation by Frederick Dodson. The technique is quite simple. 1. Pick an area of your life that you want to look a certain way. Or a goal you want to achieve. Or a new version of reality in that realm. 2. Write about it as though you've already achieved the new reality. For me I focused on my comedy career. I wrote stuff like: "I have 100,000 subscribers on YouTube. I effortlessly sell out every show in comedy clubs across the nation. Joe Rogan just had me on his podcast." Stuff like that. Written as though it's ALREADY happened. As I wrote this out (by hand on my iPad) I was seeing all of these things. I was feeling the feelings I'll feel when those things happen. I didn't doubt or question any of it. I just saw it as already done. You can do it for any area of your life. I just started a "physical health" scripting note as well. I'm writing things like "I weigh 200 pounds. My body feels light and athletic. My Vo2 Max is 50." And I picture my ideal body as I write it. Now for the "how is not for now" part of visualization. Lately I've found myself more obsessed with growing my comedy career than ever before. Both in good and bad ways. Good because it's the thing I care about most. Bad because I find myself thinking about it constantly. It's as though I think it's not going to happen if I stop thinking about it. I want to make sure my mind is constantly working towards that goal. It's like there's this little fear underneath that I'm gonna keep delaying if I'm not constantly imagining my future where I'm a famous comedian that sells out every show. That's when it hit me... When I've spent lots of time visualizing a specific outcome around money I don't doubt it try to think about it constantly. I imagine the ideal future in my meditation/visualization and then I let it go and move on with my day. I don't obsess about repeating my affirmations as I'm walking around or doing other things. I trust the visualization. I trust that the universe will take care of the rest of it for me. I know I don't need to obsess about it all day. My conscious mind doesn't need to focus on it because my subconscious and unconscious mind will do that for me. However with the comedy stuff I've been trying to WILL and FORCE things with my conscious mind. And while I know that seems to work for some people, it never seems to work for me. I do my best when I work from a place of trust, surrender, and belief. I believe in the WHAT and let go of the HOW. That's the true power of visualization and meditation. It's the focus and the RELEASE. Release attachment to the goal with your conscious mind and it actually becomes more likely to turn into reality. I know I've said A LOT of stuff in this email but I wanted to share what I've been thinking about. I wrote this email for you...but also a bit for myself to organize my thoughts around this topic. If you think visualization and meditation are a bunch of B.S. that's your right to believe that. But your belief creates your reality ;) Next week I may dive into the more "scientific" parts of visualization if you guys want me to. For now I have to change gears a bit to focus on my upcoming birthday sale...it's gonna be the craziest one I've ever done. I don't say that lightly. If you've been thinking about buying any of my more expensive products, wait till this weekend. I'll give you some of the details of how it'll work tomorrow. The sale itself will happen Sunday and Monday for a short time window.
