A few years ago I had a business with a therapist/coach named Brent Charleton. The business was doing so well that he had to leave it because his demand for one-on-one work had grown so much that he couldn’t do both at the same time. Now he charges $100,000 a year for a single client. How is he able to charge such an astronomical sum? (And not be able to take clients until 2024?) Because he’s the best. Before he and I worked together, he was my coach/therapist. (He was a lot less expensive back then thankfully cuz I wouldn’t have been able to afford him haha. It was about $25,000 when I started.) Working with him completely and utterly changed the course of my life. I found out I wasn’t perfect. I found out I was fucked up. I don't mean that in a "victim" way. If anything, my childhood was unreasonably good. We’re all fucked up to some degree. It’s just impossible to come out of childhood completely unscathed. My trauma wasn’t crazy or anything. My parents LOVED me. Maybe too much haha. But it was the pressure I experienced to be the best tennis player in the world that caused most of my issues. Issues that I’m still working on today. See, when I was working with Brent I did a LOT of work on myself. It felt like I got 30 years of therapy in about 3 years. The transformation in all areas of my life was profound. But then I stopped doing “the work” for awhile. I still did a lot of work on myself. (Primarily through surrender and meditation.) However, I quit doing Brent’s method for removing blocks called “corrections.” (There are a few reasons why I stopped that I won’t go into right now.) Yet over the past month I’ve started doing corrections again and the results have been profound. I’m currently working on my relationship to making videos for my business. I have some huge blocks that go back to my relationship to tennis. I’ve done 3 corrections so far (doing a 4th today) and I’ve produced more video content in the last 3 weeks than I have in the last year. Just think how much money that is worth to me. Each video I record brings in money either directly or indirectly. Each one is worth anywhere from a few hundred bucks to thousands. If it’s an ad it may be worth millions. (One ad alone has made us over a million dollars in the last 2 years.) I could’ve just WILLED myself to not have blocks around video…and it would’ve worked…for a little bit. In fact, that’s what I did. And it didn’t work. Now that I’m doing the “deep work” again I feel free and excited to film. I feel like creating videos is literally part of my core purpose in life. Not filming them hurts my soul. I know I’m capable of so much more, yet I’ve been doing so little in this realm of my life. So even if we toss the money part aside, I’m feeling like a new man recording these videos. I feel like I’m not letting myself down. I’m not letting my business partner and employees down. I’m not letting my customers and followers down. The work you do on yourself is for YOU. But the effects it has on the world around you is profound and rewarding. So don’t avoid the fucked up parts of yourself. Use them as opportunities to light up the darkness within you. If it’s in the way, it is the way. That’s all for today. I know it’s a bit heavy but this is the stuff I love to talk about. Talk soon, Ian “do the work” Stanley P.S. Years ago Brent and I posted a video on YouTube talking about the Core Issues Matrix that he teaches. It takes you through the foundation of his methods. It’s all about the wounded child, adapted teen, and functional adult. Just understanding those core ideas can change your life. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
