The night before last it dumped snow at my house in town. I woke up to a blinding white view of the mountains outside my back window. It snowed 6 inches while I slept. One of the main reasons I have always been so committed to working for myself is because I value freedom above pretty much everything. The freedom to do what I want when I want. To work the hours I wanna work…and not work when I don’t want to. The freedom to work from anywhere at any time. And the freedom to snowboard whenever the snow is good. So when I saw six inches of fresh new snow, I knew I had to hit the mountain. I didn’t build my own businesses so I would end up a slave to them. I built them in a way to allow myself to the freedom to do the things that matter most to me. Yesterday that meant hitting the slopes to catch some fresh powder. I love what I do for a living. And I also love what it allows me to do when I’m not working. After I finished snowboarding yesterday I had a haircut in the afternoon. I was still wearing my ridiculous red snowboarding pants so my barber asked if I went to the mountain. After I confirmed that the red pants were in fact for snowboarding and not a new fashion statement I was trying to make - she said "wow that’s so cool you can just go up whenever." She runs her own barber shop and does well for herself, but she’s ultimately not making money unless she’s working. (Although she does make some from the other barbers that use her space.) And she can’t just cancel on her clients last minute because of some good snow. She’d lose her loyal clients if she got flaky. (Dandruff pun not intended.) Now, I’ll be honest, I can’t just go to the mountain last minute WHENEVER I want. Running a company does mean I have responsibilities on certain days. But I never have calls after 2pm which means I CAN snowboard any day I want after 2pm. When I was just a simple freelance email copywriter I actually had even more freedom because I didn’t have employees and a business to manage. I just had to do my writing and the rest of my time was completely my own. No calls. No meetings. No employees. That’s why I highly recommend people start out as email copywriters if they’re looking to build a true freedom business online. It’s flat out the easiest way to make a living from anywhere in the world without having a boss. If you wanna learn how to do that, I recommend you join 90 Days to Freedom. It’s my flagship course where I teach you the skill of email copywriting and how to find clients that’ll pay you thousands a month to write for them.
