A couple weeks ago I went for a run in one of the richest neighborhoods in the world. Itâs a gated community in California where Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky, Britney Spears, and Pete Sampras live. But most of the rich people in the neighborhood arenât famous athletes, actors, or celebrities. Theyâre business owners. I went on my run at about 9 in the morning and I noticed something interesting as I ran past these picturesque mansions. Someone was doing yard work at a good portion of the houses. Mowing the lawn, picking weeds, etc. Yet not a single one of the people doing the yard work were the owners of the house. How could I tell? Because there was a landscaping truck in front of each house. Now, keep in mind, these houses are worth anywhere from two million dollars to 30 million dollarsâ¦a few worth even more than that. And none of those home owners mow their own lawns. Iâm sure some of you might be saying "must be nice. I wish I was rich enough to not have to mow my own lawn." Or maybe youâre saying "shiiiiit, I just wish I had a lawn to mow." So why am I telling you this story? Because itâs an important lesson about the mega wealthy. Theyâve all learned a skill that most people never learn - how to delegate. How to take the shit off their plate that doesnât truly matter and let someone else do it. But in order to get to that point you have to learn a skill that makes you money. Then once you get to a certain level of success you have to learn how to let others do the stuff that isnât the most important stuff. When I was just starting out making money online I learned how to write emails that made other people money. I got paid (well) to do it. Then I started my own companies and I still write the emails (like this one) that make us money because itâs so damn important to our business. But now I have a team of 10 people who do all the stuff that Iâm not good at. Or they do stuff Iâm good at, but I donât have the bandwidth for it anymore. Here are my beliefs about learning the skill of writing emails⦠You can get to around $35,000 a month or $400,000 a year writing for other people before you start to hit your limit without hiring other people. You can get to around $100,000 a month with one employee if you start selling your own products. You can do hundreds of thousands a month if you start an agency. (But that often becomes a pain in the ass if you scale too quickly.) You can do millions a month if you start hiring and scaling a team and selling your own products - but itâs a lot more work and less of a lifestyle business. That's been my experience at least...
