When it comes to marketing of any kind, first impressions matter...a lot. They matter in real life too, but at least in real life you might get a second chance cuz someone is a friend of a friend. Or you run into each other again by accident. In online marketing, you have one chance to make a first impression and make sure it's good. Let me teach you what I mean with a little comparison... I'm a stand up comedian. I recently released my first full hour special and there's a "make or break" phase for comedy specials. If you don't love the first 10-15 minutes, you'll turn it off. If you love the first 10 or 15 minutes, you'll watch the whole thing. If your first 10 to 15 minutes don't kill, it doesn't matter if you have the best 45 minutes of stand up in the world after that. People won't keep watching. In fact, you probably have less than 10 to 15 minutes if someone is watching your special on YouTube. You may only have 2 minutes because they don't trust you yet. If you're on Netflix they'll give you 10 minutes because "you're on Netflix" so you must be decent. (Despite the fact that there's heaps of shitty specials on Netflix...but I won't go into that haha.) One guy actually just commented on my special and said this: "I have listened to over 100 comedy specials, I turn them off within 2 minutes if they don’t hit a certain funny level. Don’t know what to call that level of funny but this guy hit it quick, and he made his way into to my top 20 current comedians very quickly." I'd prefer to be in his top 5 but I'll take the compliment haha. The moral of the story is this: Trust is EARNED. And you don't have much time to earn it. That's why you need to make sure you lead with your best shit. You gotta make sure your first emails to your email list are the best possible emails. If you mess up your first email (your welcome email) you're screwed. You've probably lost your subscriber forever. That's why you should make sure to use the best Welcome Email possible. Thankfully I've tested a metric shit ton of Welcome emails and turned the best few into templates. You can grab them for just $7. [ Click here to check them out]( I also made a full course about Welcome Sequences where you also get 10 templates for a full sequence. [You can check that out here](. Whether you use the templates or not just keep in my mind that you don't have much time to win people over. Use it wisely. I also know I talked about being a stand up comedian in this email and then proceeded to say nothing funny...but I promise to make you laugh in the future haha. Talk soon, Ian "the first 10 minutes matter" Stanley P.S. If you missed the email I sent about my special the other day, here it is: My full hour comedy special, C*ntroversial, just dropped for free on YouTube. But please do NOT watch it if you're easily offended or don't like comedy. It's definitely not for everyone. I wanted to properly warn you. If you like controversial topics and jokes, you should watch it. If I've ever provided any value to you and you want to support me then there's one thing you can do above all else. Watch the whole thing to the end. Watch time is the #1 metric YouTube cares about. If people watch the whole thing they'll show it to a bunch of people. Watch it multiple times. Play it on repeat while you sleep. Tell your friends. Tell your family (if they're the cool family members with a sense of humor). Little things like this can be the difference between this thing going super viral or YouTube hiding it from the world. If you don't wanna watch it, just ignore this email. I'm not even gonna send a link directly to the special because I only want people to watch who really wanna see it. And because the second best thing I can do for the YouTube algorithm is have you search "Ian Stanley Comedy Special." So if you're not lazy, please go to the YouTube homepage and type that in. If you are lazy, I've typed it in for you. If you click below it'll take you to the search page with "Ian Stanley Comedy Special" already searched. [> > > Click here to watch the full special]( I'll say this one more time: Don't watch it if you're offended by words. It's not for you. I will still happily teach you email marketing, copywriting, and all that jazz. Just don't watch the special and complain, because I warned you. And one last thing...I love you all. Even if you hate comedy and you're easily offended. You make comedy easier to write haha. Thanks for being a part of my world. I know some of you have been on my list for years and years. And some of you are brand new. Either way, you're the best. Talk soon, Ian "can't believe the day is finally here" Stanley P.S. I'll talk about email and money and stuff again soon, don't worry. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
