The Palestinian Foreign Ministry denounced the stop as "an unprecedented provocation.” Ben-Gvir's heavy security surrounded him during the trip due to threats that his presence at the site could cause "an explosion." Showing their disapproval, US officials stated it stood “firmly for the preservation of the status quo" at the sacred location. Jordan currently controls Al Aqsa and only allows Muslims to worship there, while other faiths are permitted to visit. Several Gulf countries, including the UAE and Saudi Arabia, were equally critical. Ben Gvir has developed a history of conflict with Palestinians. Jordan's Foreign Ministry warned that Israel is responsible for "the dangerous consequences of this escalation." Ben Gvir contended with his critics and asserted that the Israeli government would not relent to Hamas' threats. He argued that The Temple Mount is open to all religions, including Jews. He also stated that freedom of movement would be maintained for Muslims and Christians, but Jews have the right to visit the site, and threats must be handled "with an iron fist." The visit reportedly lasted about 15 minutes and passed without incident. DID YOU KNOW? Israeli currency is printed with braille writing to enable higher autonomy for blind citizens. MEDICAL CANNABIS COURSE FOR DOCTORS EduCann is a new online cannabis course for medical professionals launching through the Hebrew University of Jerusalem's Multidisciplinary Center for Cannabinoid Research (MCCR). Noticing a lack of knowledge about marijuana in the medical field, Israeli researchers created the program to dispel the myths and clarify its benefits. EduCann trains healthcare providers about using cannabis to treat symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, chronic pain, and spasms. The syllabus includes the medical history of cannabis, treatments, drug safety, research, and medicinal uses. VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT NACHMAN BITTON| FEED ISRAEL VOLUNTEER | TEL AVIV “I'm lucky to own a tech startup in the capital of tech, and living in Israel has always been my dream. I was a supporter of Feed Israel before our move, but to see what they do up close makes me want to get involved even more. This past Chanukah, I gave an extra donation so more families could have a happy and warm chag. I was astounded by how many children here go without basic necessities, let alone presents and latkes. Kol Hakavod, Feed Israel!” ACCESSIBLE ARTS FOR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN [pic] The arts provide numerous benefits and make life more enjoyable. But, for children with special needs, it is a way to express emotions when other forms of communication are elusive. Equinote is an Israeli nonprofit organization founded in 2018 by Rinat Avisar and Yoram Lachish, both professional musicians, who are the parents of two deaf children. The organization offers a range of concerts and activities for children of all ages, including those with physical and emotional challenges. One of these is "Touching the Sounds," a show that tells the story of Beethoven's struggles with hearing loss and how he and a scientist discover routes for him to continue composing. In addition to "Touching the Sounds," Equinote has expanded to offer other programs. Upcoming events include a lecture by Dr. Mordi Ben Hamou, an autistic scientist and musician, at The Meaningful Parenting Center in Ashdod on January 8 and a performance by Ben Hamou and other artists with special needs at Beit Hayotzer in Tel Aviv on January 4.   POVERTY HURTS [chan]( Broken economy forced thousands of Israelis into poverty.
