"Today, Egypt and Israel make a commitment to share our natural gas with Europe and to help with the energy crisis," said Israeli Energy Minister Karine Elharrar. By tapping into the gas riches of the eastern Mediterranean, Israel will send natural gas resources from its offshore fields through a pipeline to Egypt, where it will then be liquefied and shipped to Europe. Israel is actively preparing to increase its gas production from its Karish field, where a floating gas rig is already in place, and has helped export 8.8 billion cubic meters of gas over the past year alone. While Israeli athletes have been permitted to participate in sporting events in Qatar in the past, this is the first time Israeli citizens would be permitted to attend as spectators. Media reports indicate that Tzohar, along with the US-based Orthodox Union, are in the running to supervise the kosher food stands at the Qatar World Cup and accommodate the needs of Jewish visitors.
