Anyone checked= out a list of local fall festivals recently? I just did today and I = was not ready for how many there are. I can't figure out if life was = always this busy and the pandemic changed my perspective or what. On = the plus side it looks like I won't have any trouble figuring out what to d= o on weekends until at least Thanksgiving. Speaking of November, sure it's way too early but I'm doing a = bike ride in Death Valley to raise money to fight climate change. My = friend Rebecca Watson set everything up. I have two requests: 1) if you can donate please do so at = [ drive.team&teamID=3D6370](3D"=) - click = Roster and then Donate next to my picture. Rebecca is clearly kicking= my ass, partly because I was concentrating on not dying on RAGBRAI in July= . 2) if anyone wants to join u= s on the ride please do so! Click Join Our Team to sign up. Ski= ll level isn't important, tl;dr I'll personally make sure you get through t= he ride. You can draft off me the whole way if you want. People often ask me "why do you do all the= se long ass bike rides?" Mainly because it's healthy, partly because = I've been active all my life and I just can't stop. I played soccer f= rom when I was 6 until about ten years ago when I first discovered that it'= s not that you -can't- play soccer well as you get older, it's that you don= 't recover anywhere near fast enough to make it enjoyable. Being able= to barely walk for three days after just one game was where I drew the lin= e on playing regularly. Cycling on the other hand I can do literally = for days without it killing me. It also takes my brain out of the Int= ernet, something I personally have need for. My other favorite part i= s you actually get somewhere at the end of the ride, unlike jogging which d= oesn't seem to get you anywhere. Thursday 4pm it's the [Fark News Livestream](3D"htt=) -= probably! It's been a light news week this week however my gut says = things will pick up enough to do the show. If not, maybe it'll be a l= ittle short. On the Quiz= itself, loveblondieo came out on top with 986, followed b= y SoundOfOneHandWanking in second with 960 and mathamagical in third with 953. Denjiro ma= de fourth with 923, and MinorThreat1 made it into the= top five with 914, The hardest question on last week's Hard Quiz w= as about professional wrestler Chris Jericho and the band he's been pl= aying with when he's not flying off the top ropes or bodyslamming oppo= nents for our amusement. Only 39% of quiztakers knew that Fozzy took the st= age in front of more than 80,000 fans at London's Wembley Stadium at the Al= l Elite Wrestling's "All In" event on Sunday. Dogstar is the name of Keanu = Reeves' band, and Wicked Wisdom was formed in Los Angeles in 2002 by that n= ice lady whose name I won't say for fear of Will Smith slapping the crap ou= t of me. But yeah, Will Smith's wife is in a nu metal band. The eas= iest question on last week's Hard Quiz was about where the Snickers bar get= s its name. 73% of quiztakers knew that like many of the ultra rich, candy = magnates and Mars, Inc owners Ethel and Frank Mars were really into horse r= acing, and even fielded Kentucky Derby winner Gallahadion in 1940. Snickers= was a beloved horse that didn't do much on the racetrack but had a special= place in Ethel's heart, so after he died just before the un-named new cand= y bar they had been developing in 1930 went into production, she suggested = they name it for him. So think about a dead horse the next time you grab on= e. The hardest question on last week's Easy Quiz was about Dan= Donegan, Mike Wengren, David Draiman, and John Moyer, and their penchant f= or setting off the sprinklers in concert venues when their production team = takes "Inside the Fire" a little too literally and kicks up the pyrotechnic= s. Only 44% of quiztakers recognized these guys as members of Disturbed, th= e nu metal band you know for the 2000 hit "Down with the Sickness" and thei= r 2015 cover of Paul Simon;s "The Sound of Silence" set about three octaves= below Simon and Garfunkel's rendition. The easiest question = on last week's Easy Quiz was about voice actor Charles Martinet. 91% pf qui= ztakers knew that since 1991, he's been the guy behind "It's-a me, Mar= io!" and other lines from Nintendo's flagship character Mario. He says that= he will continue to be a "Mario Ambassador" and make appearances to promot= e future games, but after 32 years, it's time for someone else to take the = mushroom reins. If you missed out last week, now's a great ti= me to [catch up on the= Fark Weird New Quiz](3D") now that you know a few of the answers. Congratula= tions once again to the winners, and we'll do it all again on Friday. --------------------------------------------------------------- ([Fark.com](3D"") sent this newsletter emai= l to: {EMAIL}) To stop these emails, go to the Notifications tab of your [MyFark profile](3D"https:=) to change your subscription preferences.
