Hey everyone hope your week's = been well. There was no writeu= p last week because I was out riding a bike across Iowa. This was the= third time I've done [RAGBRAI](3D"https:=), and by far the hottest. = ; Temperatures in Iowa were fine all summer - until the middle of last week= when the southern heat dome decided to wander north. Aside from the = three 100 degree days, the 80 degree nights made camping super iffy. = I'd heard that the human body can acclimate to heat, and apparently mine di= d because I've been home since Sunday and I'm freezing my ass off in the AC= in my house. But I love it. When I was a kid my parents tried = to save money by not running the AC, and the only thing I've ever wanted in= life is a cold house in August. I made it 432 miles before my bottom bracket literally disintegrated.&nb= sp; My first clue was my left crack came completely the hell off in the mid= dle of a hill climb in Iowa City. I thought it just needed re-tighten= ing but when I looked, it wasn't there at all - no metal, nothing but rust = in there. I'm super glad it held until the last day, if it had gone o= ut during the heat the day before that would have been problematic. I= was ready to be done anyhow, that just gave me the excuse. = The heat the entire ride was pretty scary.&nb= sp; I'm honestly surprised no one actually died on that ride. I'm sur= prised at least 1,000 people didn't die on that ride. I overheard som= e super questionable advice including "just power through man" which does n= ot actually work in hundred degree heat. I ran into one guy who was f= ull on hallucinating in the heat - I hope he was on shrooms or something bu= t I'm pretty sure he wasn't. I think I might switch back to the Empir= e State Ride next year since they have a hotel option. = In other news, later this year in November I'= m doing [a ride across Death Valley to raise money to fight climate cha= nge.](3D"=) We have some slots on the team open if anyone's interested. = 5 days of riding, distances top out at 50 miles or so, totally doable.&nbs= p; If you're interested and you've never done a ride like this, hit me up a= nd I'll send you a training regimen - it's not super terrible. I alre= ady trained one friend from couch to 100 mile ride in 12 weeks this year, h= it me up if you'd like to be next. Check out the following link to join us on the ride and/or donate to t= he cause!
[ eaction=3Ddonordrive.team&teamID=3D6370](3D"https://=) No [livestream](3D"=)this week - politi= cs sucked all the air out of the news cycle again. Will be back next = week!

On the Quiz itself, we had = three Farkers making it into the 1000 club. HFK came out o= n top with 1016, followed by TheCheese and De= ad Skin Mask in a tie for second with 1012, oncorhyn= chusobstetrician made third with 990, JasonOfOrillia= ng> made fourth with 980, and mrs. badcrumble made it= into the top five with 948, The hardest question on last week's H= ard Quiz was about women's basketball. Only 25% of quiztakers caught the ar= ticle last week about FIBA introducing a new glass LCD basketball court for= the 2023 Women's Basketball World Cup in Madrid. I'm wondering if they con= sidered all the glass backboard shattering from the late 1980s before makin= g this call. I can't wait for the first technical glitch that makes the cou= rt lines replaced by Nike advertisements. The easiest question on l= ast week's Easy Quiz was about the annual festival in Key West celebrating = the life of an American writer. 94% of quiztakers knew about Hemingway Days= and the lookalike contest held at Sloppy Joe's Bar, a favorite hangout of = the author when he lived there in the 1930s. You have to admit it's a good = place to hold the competition, as half of all men in Key West already have = white hair and a trimmed beard. It's like some kind of governmental regulat= ion or something. The hardest question on last week's Easy Quiz was= about which artist's show at the Egyptian Pyramids was cancelled because t= he Egyptian Musicians Syndicate had concerns about "...peculiar ritual= s performed by [the artist] during his performance", Only 51% of quiztakers= recognized that "Utopia" was the name of Travis Scott's current tour, wher= e he is playing his biggest his "goosebumps". No further word about the "pe= culiar rituals", but FWIW the Red Hot Chili Peppers have played there and I= think their creative use of socks definitely fits the word "peculiar".&nbs= p; The easiest question on the Easy Quiz was about which sports tea= m had purchased Foamation, Inc,, the company who makes the large cheese wed= ge hats you often see at their games. 97% of quiztakers knew this was a sma= rt business move by the Green Bay Packers. No word on why the cheese appear= s to be some kind of yellow swiss rather than Wisconsin cheddar, which does= not have holes in it. If you missed out last week, it's a great ti= me to [catch up on the= Fark Weird News Quiz](3D") now that you know a few of the answers. Congratul= ations once again to the winners, and we'll do it all again on Friday. --------------------------------------------------------------- ([Fark.com](3D"") sent this newsletter emai= l to: {EMAIL}) To stop these emails, go to the Notifications tab of your [MyFark profile](3D"https:=) to change your subscription preferences.
