XOXO, NotNewsletterMonkey __________= ______________ A message from Drew Curtis= : ________________________ Hey everyone hope your week's been well. Last Friday I was driving up to Buffalo for the [Buffalo Fark Party](3D") when I started getting new= sflash alerts that Wagner was possibly attempting a coup in Russia. T= his all kicked off around 5pm eastern and pretty much continued into the ev= ening and beyond. We arrived late in Buffalo so we had a late dinner = that finished around 11pm and stuff was still going on. So I set up i= n the hotel bar to get some work done. While I was at the bar, the bartender asked me what I was working = on, I told her the coup in Russia. "The what now?" she said. I = told her what I knew about what was happening in Russia, by 11pm at night t= hings were still going full throttle. She offered to change the bar T= V to CNN so we could see what they were saying about it. This seemed like a good idea at the time, but it= was not. CNN apparently had n= o one working late on a Friday night - turns out they were doing an hour-lo= ng special on the Titanic sub implosion. Which I thought was the leas= t important thing going on in the world when compared to a rogue private ar= my marching on Moscow until she flipped to Fox News - they were talking abo= ut Hunter Biden. Again not surprising, but still, the two largest new= s networks were straight up not covering a potentially huge situation becau= se it happened after 5pm on a Friday. Not that I expected them to do a good job with the coverage, it was= just notable that there was none at all. After that, the bartender didn't talk to me the rest of the nig= ht. I think she figured I was just some crazy person hunting conspira= cy fanfic on the net late at night. Had a great trip to Buffalo last weekend, it was awesome to finally g= et out. Special thanks to Mr. Fuzzypaws for organizi= ng! Thursday 4pm et on the [Fark News Livestream](3D"): we'll be recapping the dumbe= st events of the Russian half-coup, along with everything we don't know abo= ut how things turned out. Fark Weird News Quiz (brought to you by ox45tallboy) Another fun time on the NNL, although I sti= ll don't understand the economics of sending a spatula halfway around = the world for a nickel. No one made the 1000 club, which is good because we= 're still waiting on the new $3.97 12-in-1 kitchen grater from Temu to make= the hors d'oeuvres. On the Quiz itself, freakingmoron cam= e out on top with 999, followed by Denjiro in second = with 970 and Hots_Kebabs in third with 925. Cock Robin made fourth with 907, and bobbelieu= trong> made it into the top five with 887. The hardest question on = the Hard Quiz was about the origin of the martini. Only 15% of quiztakers k= new that while gin has been around since the 13th century, the combination = of gin and vermouth in a chilled glass was first served in the California g= old rush town of Martinez, from whence it gets its name. I'm guessing it wa= s a big hit at lunchtime for all the lawyers registering claim deeds. The easiest question on the Hard Quiz was about how a doctor in Henderso= nville, TN got busted for selling fake vaccination exemption forms for pati= ents he had never examined. 80% of quiztakers caught the story about a news= reporter who had spent $139 for an exemption letter for her doggo. No word= on if the dog was a willing participant, but I'm guessing he was all "if t= his gets me out of a vet visit, sign me up!" The hardest question o= n last week's Easy Quiz was about why Washington, DC bars will get to remai= n open 24/7 starting July 20 and ending August 20. Only 42% of quiztakers k= new that this was the date of the Women's World Cup, the largest women's pr= ofessional sporting event in the world. It will be held in Australia and Ne= w Zealand this year, meaning the games will air live in the middle of the n= ight in the US, and bars will have to turn their TVs upside down, The Cric= ket World Cup will be held from Oct. 5 to Nov. 19 in India this year. = The easiest question on last week's Easy Quiz was about what invas= ive critter has caused a quarantine of southern Broward and northern M= iami-Dade counties. 91% of quiztakers knew that giant African Land Snails h= ave been showing up again, leaving slimy trails everywhere and munching on = everything from crops to tree bark to house stucco. Personally, I think the= high-end Miami restaurants could offer escargot géant &nbs= p;to tourists at inflated rates and they'd be gone in a week. If yo= u missed out last week, now's a great time to [catch up on the Fark Weird News Quiz](3D" now that = you know a few of the answers. Congratulations once again to the winners, a= nd we'll be doing it all again on Friday. --------------------------------------------------------------- ([Fark.com](3D"") sent this newsletter emai= l to: {EMAIL}) To stop these emails, go to the Notifications tab of your [MyFark profile](3D"https:=) to change your subscription preferences.
