Comments thread: [(3D" Unsubscribe links are at the bottom of this message. =20 =20 ________________________ A message= from Drew Curtis: ________________________ Happy 3rd of July everyone = Last Saturday I traveled down to Western Kent= ucky University to celebrate the 40th anniversary of VAMPY, a summer camp I= went to as a kid. My daughter is there as a camper right now. = To celebrate, the program held a reunion for everyone who had ever been.&nb= sp; VAMPY was a name given to the camp by my friend Melanie when we were th= ere in the late 80s. The original name of the camp was "The Summer Pr= ogram For Verbally and Mathematically Precocious Youth," which doesn't real= ly roll off the tongue. Initially the camp organizers hated the name = and told us to stop calling it that, which of course we ignored. By t= he 20th anniversary VAMPY was the official name. I mention this because a few days before the reunion, it= occurred to me I hadn't heard from any of my camp friends. I hit up = a few of them and discovered none of them were aware there was an alumni re= union that weekend. One of the challenges of contacting former camper= s is that they are in high school while there. This means the most cu= rrent contact info the camp has is the camper's high school home address, a= n email address that likely isn't being used anymore. It was still a fun time but I wish I'd realized thi= s earlier. I would have hit up all my friends well in advance. Then they wo= uld have known about it. On a = similar note, Fark needs your help. Over the years, many, many Farkers have= drifted away from this site. [On Octobe= r 12th we're having a Fark 25th anniversary celebration in Lexington Kentuc= ky](=3D"). If you wouldn't mind, reach out to folks to make sure they ar= e coming. Some of them might not know about it. There will defi= nitely be an event the evening of Oct 12th but we'll have a list of other a= ctivities for the whole weekend Friday-Sunday - bourbon tours, riverboat ri= des, hiking, local breweries, and the local horse racing track will be runn= ing that weekend as well. And Monday is Columbus day so you'll have a= n extra day to travel if you need it. I'll have more announcements about the event itself in the next few= weeks. Meanwhile, save the date and call your friends. I'm loo= king forward to seeing you all. (No [livestream](3D") tomorrow, since it's the 4th o= f July.) ________________________ End Drew = strong> transmission ________________________ Farking Tip Apparently, our Fark Pa= rty links don't adjust for timezones yet? On the Quiz itself, reachforthetop9= ong> came out on top with 1036, followed by rick42 in= second with 1015 and NM Volunteer in third with 1010= . mrfu32 made fourth with 1009, and c= oscausticevil made it into the top five with 950. The hard= est question on last week's Hard Quiz was about which uniquely British enti= ty was now owned by private and mostly foreign investors, one of whom wants= to buy out the 5.5% still owned by British employees and pensioners. Only = 41% of quiztakers knew that the Royal Mail was sold off to private equity i= n 2013, with qualifying employees and retirees receiving 600 shares each. T= he offer by the Czech billionaire to buy these shares would give each of th= em £2,220 or about $2,827 in real money, about 65% more than the= shares were worth prior to his offer. The easiest question on last= week's Hard Quiz was about which company endured a failed military coup la= st week. 91% of quiztakes caught the news that a renegade general had rolle= d armored vehicles to the doors of the governmental palace of Bolivia, prom= ising to "restore democracy". The coup was quickly ended when President Lui= s Arce fired the general and named a new army commander, prompting no small= number of exiled presidents all over the world to say, "wait, you can do t= hat?" The hardest question on last week's Easy Quiz was about what = kind of luxury vehicle thieves were able to make off with by using the bril= liant idea of texting the delivery driver with a new dropoff address. Only = 64% of quiztakers recognized that Rolls Royce is a British automaker, while= Maybach is German. No word on if the thieves gave it back when they learne= d the steering wheel was on the wrong side. The easiest question on= last week's Easy Quiz was about the definition of "remuneration". 92% of q= uiztakers knew it was money paid to someone for a service, loss, or expense= . Which leads me to question what "muneration" is and why they're doing it = again. English is weird. If you missed out last week, now's a great= time to [catch up on = the Fark Weird News Quiz](3D"=) now that you know a few of the answers. Congra= tulations once again to the winners, and we'll do it all again on Friday. = --------------------------------------------------------------- ([Fark.com](3D"") sent this newsletter emai= l to: {EMAIL}) To stop these emails, go to the Notifications tab of your [MyFark profile](3D"https:=) to change your subscription preferences. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
