Of course, next Thursday, we get the Commanders against the Bears so, maybe, that one may take the crown given how bad the Bears have been this season. Anyway, despite how bad the game was to kickoff Week 5 there are still some things we can take away from it. Alec Pierce Needs To Be Rostered The Colts rookie wide receiver got some hype in the preseason with early reports that he was looking like he had chemistry building with Matt Ryan. His NFL career did not get off to a great start as he had zero catches with a dropped touchdown in Week 1 but since then he has at least 60 yards in each of the three games he has been active for. Last night he had a career high eight catches for 81 yards. Both teams had a tremendous pass rush and the secondary of both team's made big plays when they were given the opportunities to do so. I don't think these performances are all that fluky here either. The Colts shut down the Chiefs offense recently and the Broncos have held opponents under 17 points in all but one game this season. Melvin Gordon Was The Lead Back But Will He Stay? On the short week the Broncos did not have Latavius Murray active for this game who they signed on Monday. For most of the night the Broncos running back did not have anything going and while the Colts defense had a lot to do with that, he also looked to lack some explosiveness. Gordon's overall stat line saved his fantasy managers as he finished with 103 total yards and three catches but it would not shock me if the Broncos took a good look at Murray in their Week 6 matchup. Courtland Sutton Continues To Establish Himself As The WR1 Not that there is much question on this now but going into the year there was some debate as to whether Jerry Jeudy or Courtland Sutton would be the top guy in Denver but through five weeks it is clear that Russell Wilson's first look is to his big outside receiver. Sutton finished Thursday's game with five catches on 11 targets for 74 yards.
