The FanGraphs Newsletter, January, 20, 2022 [READ IN BROWSER]( January 20, 2022 Note: During the offseason, we will publish every Tuesday/Thursday Major League Baseball rejected the Tampa Bay Rays' proposed plan to split time between Tampa and Montreal. “We put everything we had into this effort because we truly believed in it — we thought it was great for the Rays, for our players, for Major League Baseball, for Montreal and Tampa Bay,” team president Brian Auld told the [Tampa Bay Times](. “And to have the rug pulled out from under us like this is extraordinarily disappointing.” ▪️ The MLB Players Association is expected to deliver a response to the CBA proposal made by the owners last week. The two sides have met only once since the lockout began in early December. | [Jon Heyman]( ▪️ Free agent shortstop Carlos Correa has hired Scott Boras as his new agent. | [ESPN]( IN OTHER NEWS: The Nationals [signed]( former top prospect Rusney Castillo to a minor league deal; the Oakland A's moved one step closer toward a [new ballpark]( at Howard Terminal; and the Astros are [changing the name]( of their Triple-A affiliate from the Skeeters to the Space Cowboys. Williams, the last major league batter to hit .400, receives 282 of a possible 302 votes. [Aaron Nola Throws Two (Ish) Fastballs]( by Ben Clemens I want to talk about Aaron Nola’s two fastballs. Nola, like many pitchers, throws a sinker and a four-seamer. Like many pitchers, he releases them from a consistent arm slot – a remarkably consistent arm slot, in fact. Not only that, he throws them at about the same speed. On average, his sinkers come out of his hand about a mile an hour slower than his four-seamers, but that’s not that big of a difference when you take variance into account. Nola threw his slowest four-seamer at 89.3 mph in 2021. All but nine of his sinkers were faster. He threw his fastest sinker at 95.2 mph – only 33 of his 1,121 four-seamers were faster. 👉 [READ MORE]( [JAWS and the 2022 Hall of Fame Ballot: Jonathan Papelbon]( | by Jay Jaffe [Falling Asleep To Fake Baseball]( | by Kevin Goldstein [A Conversation With Arizona Diamondbacks Prospect Ryne Nelson]( | by David Laurila [Arizona Diamondbacks Top 46 Prospects]( | by Brendan Gawlowski and Eric Longenhagen [2022 ZiPS Projections: Texas Rangers]( | by Dan Szymborski [2022 ZiPS Projections: Atlanta Braves]( | by Dan Szymborski 📌 [Job Posting: Sports Info Solutions Internships]( 📌 [Job Posting: Milwaukee Brewers Senior Development Operations (DevOps) Engineer]( 📌 [Job Posting: Boston Red Sox Baseball Systems Developer]( The Mug in white!
