The FanGraphs Newsletter, July 19, 2021 [READ IN BROWSER]( By Jeffrey Bellone - July 19, 2021 ð¢ MORE THAN BASEBALL HEROES As you probably know by now, the Nationals and Padres game was suspended on Saturday after multiple gunshots were heard near Nationals Park. The shooting occurred just outside the stadium. Local authorities have identified three victims with "[non-life-threatening]( wounds; they believe the gunfire was unrelated to the game. As people inside the stadium were unsure what was happening in the moments following the first gunshots, heroes emerged from the Padres dugout to usher fans into the dugout for safety. Francisco Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado were caught on video helping pull family members out of the stands. âOur family, loved ones, little kids. [I] feel like somebody needed to go get them,â Tatis told reporters. âI feel like the safest place was the clubhouse and we were trying to get our families into a safe place." Tatis [went on to say]( that there was no distinction between players and fans, âEverybody is just people. Just human beings.â Wil Myers and Jurickson Profar, along with Nationals starter Patrick Corbin also searched for ways to help. â«ï¸ WHAT ELSE HAPPENED? â«ï¸Angels prospect Brandon Marsh made his major league debut on Sunday, going 0-4 at the plate. He was recently ranked as the [top prospect in the Angels' system]( by Eric Longenhagen, and is currently ninth on [THE BOARD]( with a 60 future value. â«ï¸The fan who threw a baseball at Red Sox left fielder Alex Verdugo during Saturday night's game at Yankee Stadium has been banned for life from attending major league baseball games. [BECOME A FANGRAPHS MEMBER]( [2021 Trade Value: #41 to #50](
By Ben Clemens and Kevin Goldstein As is the annual tradition at FanGraphs, weâre using the week after the All-Star Game to take stock of the top 50 players in baseball by trade value in anticipation of next weekâs trade deadline. For a more detailed introduction to this yearâs exercise, as well as a look at those players who fell just short of the top 50, be sure to read the [Introduction and Honorable Mentions piece](. For those who have been reading the Trade Value Series the last few seasons, the format should look familiar. For every player, youâll see a table with the playerâs projected five-year WAR from 2022-2026, courtesy of Dan Szymborskiâs ZiPS projections. The table will also include the playerâs guaranteed money, if any, the year through which their team has contractual control of them, last yearâs rank (if applicable), and then projections, contract status, and age for each individual season through 2026, if the player is under contract or team control for those seasons. Last yearâs rank includes a link to the relevant 2020 post. Thanks are due to Sean Dolinar for his help in creating the tables in these posts. At the bottom of the page, there is a grid showing all the players who have been ranked up to this point. The goal of the Society was to come together to appreciate the pitching acumen of then-healthy-Cleveland and now-injured-Yankee pitcher Corey Kluber. Had attendance been taken at the meetings of this illustrious organization, I will have you know that I would have been present (in spirit) on each occasion. I tell you this because just as I felt compelled to extol the virtues of Kluber then, I feel a similar urge regarding Metsâ first round draft pick and future ace right-hander Kumar Rocker. ð [Whatâs the Deal with Christian Yelich?]( by Jeremy Siegel, Pitcher List: Christian Yelich seemingly found a new groove after being acquired by Milwaukee during the 2017-2018 offseason. He had always been a good player with Miami, but his first two seasons as a Brewer were MVP-level. Since 2019, however, his play has declined. ð MORE READS: [The 10 most intriguing questions of the 2021 MLB trade deadline]( by Ken Rosenthal, The Athletic ($) [How MLB All-Stars are dealing with trade deadline uncertainty]( by Jesse Rogers, ESPN [Which teams just drafted their new No. 1 prospects?]( by Keith Law, The Athletic ($) [@fangraphs]( [FanGraphs]( [FanGraphs]( [RSS]( [FORWARD]( [SUBSCRIBE]( Copyright © 2021 FanGraphs Inc, All rights reserved.
