Plus, it's okay to be a 30-year-old baseball player. Plus, it's okay to be a 30-year-old baseball player. [View this email in your browser]( Is a Yu Darvish Deal Brewing? [Yu Darvish]( has been a lot of things to a lot of people in recent years. Currently, he is single handedly trying to light the stove. That’s not to diminish his time spent rescuing dogs, including one [he saw on Twitter](. To the Rangers he was an ace, then an injured ace, then an injured ace regaining his footing. Then, months ago, to the Dodgers, he was a welcome buzzerbeater addition to what was already a superteam. He was also the recent addition that was getting shelled in the postseason. Now, Darvish is one of around 150 unsigned free agents, and one of many on [FanGraphs 2018 top 50 free agents]( that remain without a new home. Sunday’s rumors have it that the Brewers made him an official offer. Thanks to the marvels of modern technology, Yu is having fun commenting on the reports surrounding his free agency negotiations via everyone’s favorite microblogging website, twitter.com. Earlier this offseason, Yu chimed in to correct a report that listed the teams that were still in on him, [saying there was another team]( involved. Sunday night, Yu [quote tweeted a report that the Brewers have an official offer on the table,]( they could be the team he was referring to. Ken Rosenthal [confirmed the report]( and though money and years have not been revealed, the Yankees have it in their minds that they could get [five years of Yu for between $80 and $90 million](. That is… not what Darvish is worth. The only significant contract the Brewers have on their books is [Ryan Braun]( who has three seasons and $57 million left on his contract, and the team started last season with the lowest actual payroll of any team in the league. They likely have the money to not lowball Darvish. But there’s not much other reason to assume they’ll break line with the other 30 inactive teams. With the hoards of unsigned free agents still sitting on the shelf, less than a month away from spring training, maybe Yu will be among those willing to sit out until a team concedes to paying his worth. Maybe we’ll have to settle for watching him retweet [teenagers trying to hold prom photos at Citi Field]( until then. Data Visualization of the Day: [Players Don’t Become Terrible at 30]( On this episode of The First 48, everyone is trying to close the case on the disappearance of the hot stove. Craig Edwards is eliminating aging free agents as a potential suspect. Excerpt from "[Bringing the Fan Scouting Report to the Ballpark]( by Adam Dorhauer "It’s been years since I’ve filled out a scorecard. When I watch a game, I know there is someone sitting in the press box recording every play. I know there’s an intern in an office in Pennsylvania charting the location of every pitch and batted ball. Even if I didn’t know that, I know where I can look up the information. I don’t need to do it myself." [FORWARD]( [SUBSCRIBE]( Copyright © 2018 FanGraphs Inc, All rights reserved.
