The strikes are over! The actors and the studios have settled on a tentative new agreement, which means that pending a vote, they can all get back to work to provide us with hundreds of television shows, 90% of which weâll react to with a big olâ âmeh.â What you need to know is that new TV wonât magically appear on your television; filming will likely begin at the end of the month, with the hopes that many broadcast series can return with 13-episode seasons in early 2024. Streaming and cable had many series in the can, but some notable series that were between seasons â like Stranger Things and The White Lotus â are looking at 2025 for returns due to the delay. Iâm just glad itâs over and we can now get Kenan Thompsonâs thoughts on Good Burger 2. Hereâs what to watch this week. -Tim Your Watch This Now! newsletter is created by Senior Recommendations and Reviews Editor Tim Surette and more show-obsessed editors at TV Guide! SERIES PREMIERES TUESDAY ON HULU [A Murder at the End of the World adds a modern flair to a classic mystery]( The OA creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij return to television â plenty of fans would already be sold if this paragraph ended there â with this FX-produced limited series, a murder mystery with an Agatha Christie-style title, though the detective at its center is entirely modern. Darby Hart (The Crown's Emma Corrin) is a Gen Z sleuth and hacker who's invited by a reclusive billionaire (Clive Owen) to a remote retreat with eight other guests. Would you believe one of them turns up dead? As Gavia Baker-Whitelaw [says in her review]( itâs an offbeat crime thriller thatâs âstylish, unpredictable, and crafted with care.â -Kelly Connolly
SEASON 6 PART 1 PREMIERES THURSDAY ON NETFLIX [The Crown begins its procession to the end]( [The final season of The Crown is split in two halves, with the first premiering on Nov. 16 and the second part on Dec. 14. All eyes will be on how the historical drama portrays the end of Princess Diana's (Elizabeth Debicki) life â Netflix has already confirmed that the series will not be showing the car crash in 1997. The Crown Season 6 will also feature the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles, as well as the introduction between Prince William and Kate Middleton. No word on Meghan Markle, though! -Kat Moon]( SEASON 2 PREMIERES THURSDAY ON MAX [Julia is comfort food for a light binge]( [Season 1 of Julia, Max's biopic series about the legendary chef Julia Child (played here by a luminous Sarah Lancashire), tracked Child's ascent to TV stardom in the 1960s as she brought the art of French cooking to American audiences. The beginning of Season 2 will be set in Paris and follow Child's continued struggle with her newfound fame. Like one of Childâs prized cassoulets, Julia is a comforting watch, rich with easygoing light drama and flavored with Lancashireâs spot-on performance. No one eats and appreciates food like Julia Child. -Allison Picurro and Tim Surette]( SERIES PREMIERES FRIDAY ON APPLE TV+ [Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is blockbuster TV, for better or worse]( Apple TV+âs new kaiju adventure series expands on the King Kong-Godzilla MonsterVerse cinematic whatever with a TV series following up on the events of 2014âs Godzilla film, while also going back to the 1950s to tie in stories from the original Godzilla films in Japan. Youâll get big moments with big monsters (including the G-man himself), and Wyatt and Kurt Russell playing the same rogue-ish military vet across two timelines. Youâll also get summer blockbuster character development and a convoluted conspiracy plot, as is usually the case with these things. However, as Keith Phipps [says in his review of the first five episodes]( âMonarch works quite well as a slick, TV-shaped blockbuster movie anchored by a charismatic cast.â
