According to the oldies radio station I listen to in my car, today is One-Hit Wonder day, which got me thinking a little about all the TV shows I loved that only lasted one season before being canceled. NBC’s Awake and Freaks and Geeks, FX’s Terriers, Netflix’s Everything Sucks! and Teenage Bounty Hunters, and others all come to mind, victims of an industry that has a different measure of success than we do. What are your favorite one-season wonders? Scream their names out your window so I can hear! Here’s what to watch this week. -Tim   Your Watch This Now! newsletter is created by Senior Recommendations and Reviews Editor Tim Surette and more show-obsessed editors at TV Guide!   WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY ON NETFLIX [The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar brings Wes Anderson’s thing to Netflix]( [Do you enjoy colorful, symmetrical images with Instagram filters over them? Then you will probably love The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, the newest project from auteur Wes Anderson, and his second adaptation of a Roald Dahl work, following 2009’s animated feature The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Though categorized as a film, it’s more of a collection of four short films based on Dahl’s short stories. Further denying its status as a “film” is the fact that the four installments will air over consecutive days through Saturday, with the 40-minute The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar starring Benedict Cumberbatch kicking things off on Wednesday. The three other shorts all run 17 minutes long and star Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, and my favorite, Richard Ayoade.]( FRIDAY ON APPLE TV+ [Check out this highly watchable TV show]( [Your toes will tap and your heart will burst into a million pieces watching this uplifting film from Once and Begin Again director John Carney. Music is once again the anchor, as an Irish mom (Eve Hewson) decides to pick up the acoustic guitar to connect with her estranged teenage son, who’s more into dubstep and hip-hop. She takes online lessons from an American guitar teacher (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), which sprinkles some romance into the proceedings, but this really looks like a crowd-pleasing mom-son drama about the power of music, complete with original songs from Carney and Scottish music producer Gary Clark.]( SERIES PREMIERE FRIDAY ON PRIME VIDEO [The Boys spin-off Gen V graduates magna cum bloody]( [The wildly weird and delightfully disgusting world of The Boys is headed someplace where things can only get weirder and more disgusting: college. This spin-off of Prime Video's superhero superhit is based on an arc from the comics that sees young people with superpowers competing to be top of the class at the Vought-run Godolkin University, the only institution of higher learning where students exploding into a mist of blood because of superpowers is a normal occurrence. The cutthroat competition is said to be reminiscent of The Hunger Games, word from the set is that things are even grosser than they are in the mothership, and you can bet your butt that some characters from The Boys will make cameos. What if you were having a kegger and Homelander showed up?]( SERIES PREMIERE THURSDAY AT 8/7C ON ABC [The Golden Bachelor finally lets seniors get some]( [Forget the wine and cheese. Pour yourself a glass of prune juice and fill a bowl with Werther’s caramels, because we’re going to someone’s grandpa’s house for some unscripted romance. The Bachelor franchise reaches uncharted territory with The Golden Bachelor, a new series in which seniors — all contestants must be over the age of 60 — get a second chance at love. 72-year-old Gerry Turner is the main course, with a wide variety of pickleball players eager to catch his eye. Stamina will be the key here; the opening night cocktail party is notorious for filming into the wee hours of the morning, right when most of these participants are getting ready for their mall walk. But seriously, folks, it’s about time this ignored demographic gets some camera time. This is TV history, for better or worse. A new season of Bachelor in Paradise follows.]( [Privacy Policy]( | [Terms of Service]( | [View in Browser]( [Unsubscribe]( © 2023 TV Guide, A Fandom, Inc. company. All rights reserved.
