There isnât a ton to watch this week or next, which is fine by me, because Iâll be glued to ESPN and ESPN+ starting today for the yearâs best sporting event, the U.S. Open (tennis version). The thrill of the serve! The exhilaration of the grunt! The possibility of a ball boy getting hit by an errant forehand! It starts today, airs all day long, and runs for a couple weeks. I freakinâ love it. Will I fall behind on all the television that Iâm trying to catch up on? Absolutely. But I will be primed for Season 2 of Netflixâs Break Point. Hereâs what to watch this week that isnât the U.S. Open. -Tim Your Watch This Now! newsletter is created by Senior Recommendations and Reviews Editor Tim Surette and more show-obsessed editors at TV Guide! SERIES PREMIERE THURSDAY ON MAX [With Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, Adventure Time grows up]( [If describing the wonderfully imaginative Adventure Time was difficult, explaining Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake is near impossible. The spin-off, featuring genderâswapped versions of original series characters Finn and Jake, who became fan favorites in Adventure Time, introduces something young fans of the show have gradually dealt with since Adventure Timeâs debut in 2010: reality. This time, Fionna is a normal girl working as a tour guide in the city and Cake is a regular cat, but there are glimpses that their lives (and the Ice Kingâs) were something more in other universes. The adventures are still wildly creative as they skip around to different realities, but itâs all grounded in the real world, as if itâs speaking directly to the fans who have outgrown their Finn and Jake pajamas.](
SERIES PREMIERE THURSDAY ON NETFLIX [One Piece is pretty good, but hardcore fans will still complain]( A live-action adaptation of the manga One Piece, the series follows Luffy (played here by Iñaki Godoy), a young man who sets off on a journey to find the treasure One Piece and become the Pirate King. While live-action anime and manga adaptations have not historically been successful, there's a lot to be excited about with this one, which may not meet superfan expectations but is certainly better than other recent live-action anime adaptations (ahem, Cowboy Bebop). [Here's everything to know about the series.]( -Allison Picurro SEASON 2 PREMIERES FRIDAY ON PRIME VIDEO [The Wheel of Time keeps spinning]( [Before Amazon spent literally a billion dollars on The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, its big fantasy series was this ambitious adaptation of Robert Jordanâs 14-book novel series. Season 1 performed well on Amazon â itâs still one of the most-watched series on the platform â even though it didnât perform well with critics, but itâs all about the numbers, and it was renewed for a third season well before the Season 2 premiere. As for the show itself, itâs strictly for fantasy die-hards and has all the genre hallmarks of magic, monsters, and mayhem, plus a prophecy thrown in for good measure. Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off, and guess what? That big bad guy that the good guys thought they killed? Not so fast.]( TUDUM [Hereâs whatâs coming to Netflix in September]( This may be a controversial opinion, but when a TV show announces a final season, I feel a sense of relief, even if itâs one of my favorites thatâs going bye-bye. Thatâs one more TV show I can take off my queue! This month, Netflix is dropping final seasons of three of its series, including Sex Education, Top Boy, and Disenchantment. Letâs hear it for conclusions! But not everything is ending; Virgin River returns for Season 5, and the new sports docuseries Wrestlers, from the creator of Last Chance U and Cheer, enters the ring (and itâs very good). [Hereâs whatâs coming to (and leaving) Netflix in Septembe](.
