The fall TV season really arrives this week, and there are more shows that should be on your radar than can fit into this humble newsletter. In addition to the highlights below, coming out this week there’s a fun detective series on ABC (High Potential, Tuesday), a DC supervillain on HBO (The Penguin, Thursday), a critically acclaimed film on Netflix (His Three Daughters, Friday), and more. It’s hard to keep track of it all, which is why [we put together our fall TV preview]( which has everything you need to be prepared for the season. Check it out, brag to your friends that you know everything that’s coming out, and then come back here for more recommendations. -Tim   Your Watch This Now! newsletter is created by Senior Recommendations and Reviews Editor Tim Surette and more show-obsessed editors at TV Guide!   SERIES PREMIERES TUESDAY AT 10/9C ON FX AND THURSDAY ON NETFLIX [American Sports Story and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story add to Ryan Murphy’s empire]( It’s Story time, friends! A double dip from producer Ryan Murphy hits TV this week, starting with Tuesday’s debut of American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, the first in a new franchise that’s part of an even larger franchise along with American Horror Story and American Crime Story. The true crime drama details the life of New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez (Josh Rivera), who was convicted of the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd and more crimes during his meteoric rise in football. [In his review]( Keith Phipps called the show a nuanced look at how a young man’s fate turned tragic due to several outside forces. On Thursday, Season 2 of Monster focuses on the Lyle and Erik Menendez murder case that saw the brothers kill their parents in 1989. Chloë Sevigny and Javier Bardem play parents Kitty and José, while relative newcomers Nicholas Chavez and Cooper Koch play Lyle and Erik, respectively. Advanced screeners weren’t sent out, but from the trailer, it looks like it has some serious Ryan Murphy energy. SERIES PREMIERES WEDNESDAY AT 9 PM ET/6 PM PT ON DISNEY+ [Agatha All Along stars the Marvel-ous Kathryn Hahn nap]( [The Marvel machine may have slowed down, but it certainly hasn't stopped. One of the few releases from the superhero factory this year is this spin-off of arguably Marvel's best TV series, WandaVision, focused on its best character, nosy neighbor Agnes/Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn). This time, the witch Agatha is forming her own coven and getting ready to face the trials of Witches' Road. Whatever, it has Hahn in it, which is really all the motivation you need to tune in.]( SERIES PREMIERE WEDNESDAY AT 8/7C ON ABC [The Golden Bachelorette gives love another shot]( [Don't let the quick divorce of Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner and Season 1 "winner" Theresa Nist sour you on ABC's newest addition to its popular reality franchise. Joan Vassos, a fan-favorite contestant and frontrunner for Gerry's heart on The Golden Bachelor who was forced to leave early for a family emergency, is the new prize, and she'll be picking from a stable of AARP-eligible men who will woo her. The winning formula shouldn't change too much: The earnest approach to love and the ticking clocks make the franchise's senior editions worth the watch.]( SERIES PREMIERES SUNDAY AT 8/7C ON CBS, MONDAY ON PARAMOUNT+ [Matlock solves the case of how to make a reboot relevant]( [One of the better new broadcast shows of the fall TV season is CBS’s Matlock, a reboot — and that is probably a loose term — of the Andy Griffith classic about an “aww shucks” criminal defender whose folksy demeanor in the courtroom hid a brilliant legal mind. This new version comes from Jane the Virgin’s Jennie Snyder Urman and stars Kathy Bates as the titular character, this time rejoining the workforce in her 70s to battle stereotypes and ageism, and, in a late-premiere twist, something much bigger.]( [Privacy Policy]( | [Terms of Service]( | [View in Browser]( [Unsubscribe]( © 2024 TV Guide, A Fandom, Inc. company.
