[Exploding Topics Logo]( Presented by: [Exploding Topics Pro Logo]( Here’s this week’s list of rapidly trending topics, insights and analysis. Topic #1 CBN Gummies [Chart]( CBN gummies are chewable supplements that contain cannabinol, a minimally-psychoactive cannabinoid. CBN forms as a cannabis plant ages and the THC breaks down. It’s about 25% as potent as THC. Because of their relaxing effects, CBN gummies are often marketed as sleep supplements. (Search volume for “[CBN for sleep]( has increased by more than 800% in the last five years). As of mid-2024, edibles made up nearly 10% of the cannabis market in the state of Washington, and CBN gummies were responsible for two of the top three best-selling edibles. In the state of California, CBN gummies currently hold all three of the top spots for best-selling edibles. What's Next CBN gummies are part of the Cannabis-Derived Gummies meta trend. Approximately 17.7 million Americans use marijuana every day or almost every day. Nearly half of cannabis users say they’ve used gummies in the past six months. One-quarter of cannabis consumers say edibles are their favorite form of cannabis. Industry leaders predict the market for cannabis edibles in the U.S. will top $4 billion in the coming year. Other popular cannabis-derived gummies include: [CBG gummies]( contain the active ingredient cannabigerol, which is known for easing anxiety and managing chronic pain. [THC-P gummies]( use a cannabinoid that’s very similar to THC. However, this compound can be as much as 33x as potent as THC. [HHC gummies]( contain a synthetic cannabinoid that has a longer shelf life than other cannabis-derived compounds. Users say the high from these gummies is much like that of THC. Topic #2 Fluted Cabinets [Chart]( Fluted cabinets have repeating vertical grooves on the surface of the doors, which creates a fluted or ribbed appearance. Fluted furniture is thought to add an elegant source of texture to a home’s interior design. Fluted cabinets, with doors made from wood or glass, are popping up as kitchen cabinets, TV consoles, bathroom vanities, and nightstands. Some consumers are paying upwards of $1K for fluted cabinets. Others are using DIY techniques to transform basic IKEA cabinets into fluted versions. The hashtag #flutedcabinets has 10.7M posts on TikTok. What's Next Fluted cabinets are part of the Quiet Luxury meta trend. This trend began in fashion but is now making its way into interior design. For example, homeowners with this style are looking for timeless pieces with simple lines and color tones found in nature like taupe, sage, and muted blues. Here are a few other in-demand quiet luxury pieces: Many homeowners add a [boucle sofa]( to their living room to provide another source of natural texture, softness, and comfort. Another focus of quiet luxury is layered lighting, and an [arched mirror]( adds a dimension of reflected light to the room. Mirrors within this trend usually have a thin frame that’s black or gold. A [travertine coffee table]( plays off the quiet luxury criteria of emphasizing natural colors and organic materials. Topic #3 AI Calendar [Chart]( AI Calendars are apps that use AI to manage users’ events, meetings, and tasks automatically. These tools are able to consider specifics like travel time, working hours, and priorities to maximize the users’ free time and availability. Plus, the AI can learn from the users’ behavior and adjust their calendars accordingly in the future. Major tech companies like Google, Apple, and Microsoft have integrated AI features into previously existing calendar tools. In addition, several startups have launched specialized AI calendars for specific groups of users like parents, students, and sales professionals. For example, [Milo]( launched an AI calendar aimed specifically at helping busy parents manage their family’s schedules. The startup is in beta mode and has received an undisclosed amount of funding from OpenAI and Y Combinator. What's Next AI calendars are part of the AI Scheduling Tools meta trend. One study showed that employees attend an average of 17 meetings each week, but at least four of those meetings have to be rescheduled. Even for a small team, the effort required to reschedule meetings can cost upwards of $10k per year in lost time. In contrast, AI scheduling tools manage calendars and meetings without any human intervention. Popular brands offering AI scheduling tools include: [Clockwise]( analyzes team members’ schedules to find optimal meeting times. It also blocks out focus time, lunches, and travel time. [Motion AI]( is an AI calendar assistant that can be used by individuals or teams. After the user adds priorities and tasks to the app, it creates a customized schedule. [Reclaim AI]( runs via Google Calendar (and soon on Outlook Calendar). Users create habits that they’d like to set and Reclaim automatically schedules the habits each week. It also features automatic meeting scheduling and rescheduling. Topic #4 Sodium-Ion Battery [Chart]( Sodium-ion batteries are a type of rechargeable energy storage that works via sodium ions moving between positive and negative electrodes. Unlike lithium-ion batteries, sodium is cheap and abundantly distributed across the world. It’s also more environmentally friendly to mine compared to lithium. Notably, sodium-ion batteries perform better in cold temperatures. One of the main R&D goals of sodium-ion batteries today is increasing the energy density. Lithium batteries used in EVs have 250-300Wh per kg whereas sodium-ion batteries carry 160 Wh per kg at best. Last year, a Chinese manufacturer released an EV powered by a sodium-ion battery that could travel 155 miles. Also that year, the production capacity of sodium-ion batteries totaled 42 gigawatt-hours. By 2030 that’s predicted to surge to 186 gigawatt-hours. Also by 2030, sodium-ion batteries are predicted to make up 10% of the battery market. What's Next Sodium-ion batteries are part of the EV Infrastructure meta trend. More than 14M EVs were sold in 2023, and 16.6M EVs are predicted to be sold in 2024. However, there are fewer than 41k fast-charging stations in the U.S. and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory estimates 1.2M public chargers will be needed by 2030. Future charging stations could come from three potential entities: standalone providers, vehicle OEMs, or the government. In addition, new battery technologies are set to improve the range of EVs. For example, GM is working on lithium-metal batteries with a 500-mile range. At the beginning of 2024, there were 30 EV models capable of going up to 300 miles on a single charge. That’s a 500% increase over 2021. “Exploding Topics Pro gives us a huge competitive advantage” [Eric Siu headshot]( Exploding Topics Pro is the only product that identifies trends at least 12 months before they take off. Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
