Hey! I sent this out a few days ago, but with the blur of 2019 arriving, I wanted to make sure you saw this email as I think you'll find it useful. Why did Arnold Schwarzenegger have a legendary physique? Why did Danny DeVito not have a legendary physique? I’m not talking about the all-time top ten comedy Twins; this is about the actual actors. 40 years after his physical prime, Arnold still comes up at Examine.com HQ all the time (partly due to my co-founder’s role as one of Arnold’s online advisors, partly because of his insane bicep peak and equally insane chest). Right off the bat, let’s attribute the lion’s share of Arnold’s physique to his self-discipline, followed by his genetics. You don’t need a randomized controlled trial to understand the importance of discipline: it takes a substantial amount of it to spend years consistently, year-in and year-out, going to the gym and avoiding junk food. Like others obsessed with winning (exhibit 1: Michael Jordan), this attribute is rare and not exactly replicable. But there’s more to the story of optimal muscle-building than just dragging your butt to the gym and denying yourself cheat foods. There’s the science behind muscle protein synthesis, which requires prooxidants (no, not antioxidants, prooxidants), there’s thousands of papers on various muscle-building supplements, and there’s evidence behind factors that inhibit muscle-building, such as poor sleep or joint pain. We’ve drafted up a quick little course on muscle building to get you pumped (no pun intended) to build muscle in 2019. If you’re interested, just [click here to learn more about the muscle building process](. Sincerely, Kamal Patel PS. Got any fitness goals for 2019? Would love to hear them.
