The 2023 finish line is in sight and I need to update Ken. Hi friend, Bringing Ken’s email to the top of your inbox (see below). The 2023 finish line is in sight and I need to update Ken on whether we can fund our 2024 research plans. I’m not sure we can close the gap before midnight – we still have $19,575 left to raise. [I saw that you hadn’t yet given to our year-end campaign. It’s really coming down to the wire. Can I count on you to pitch in?]( Please make a donation. It will only take a minute – and even just $15 will help. I know that a lot is being asked of you right now, but this is EWG’s biggest fundraising day of the year. Any amount you can spare will make a difference. Reminder: All gifts are MATCHED. But this special matching opportunity ends at midnight. A huge THANKS in advance, friend! Maura Walsh Executive Vice President, Marketing and Communications P.S. If you made a gift recently and I missed it, my apologies! Thank you so much for your generosity. ---------- Original Message ---------- To: {EMAIL} From: Ken Cook, EWG Date: Sunday, December 31, 2023 Subject: Feeling hopeful... [EWG] [EWG] [Time is running out]( Dear friend, As we are hours away from ringing in the New Year, I think about all the things EWG plans to do – things we MUST do – in 2024. Updating Skin Deep®, the Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce™ and the Tap Water Database and expanding our work on PFAS chemicals are just some of the items on our list. But the fact is, they’re not going to get done if we don’t reach our fundraising goal tonight. I realize it’s New Year’s Eve and you don’t have sunscreen and pesticides on your mind, but could I ask you to take a minute and think about how EWG has helped you? [If you count on us to help keep your family safe and healthy, please donate right away so we can reach our hourly goal. We’ve calculated that we need 290 individuals to step up with a $15 contribution. Will you be one of them?]( And, if you donate before midnight tonight, your gift will be MATCHED by a generous donor, which means it will go twice as far. [Your $25 becomes $50, $35 becomes $70, and $150 becomes $300.]( The work we do has never been easy, but I’m sorry to say we’re facing some serious headwinds in 2024. • Congress is considering the implementation of loopholes that would allow companies like 3M, which have made a fortune poisoning our environment, to avoid cleaning up their PFAS pollution. • Bayer-Monsanto, the creator of glyphosate – the active ingredient in Roundup that’s linked to cancer – is spending millions lobbying Congress to override local pesticide laws that restrict spraying these toxic chemicals. • Cleaning product manufacturers are trying to keep consumers in the dark about all the toxic chemicals in the products they use in their homes every day. As you can see, we’re up against some pretty powerful forces. These companies have billions of dollars at their disposal to pressure politicians and whitewash their deceitful practices. That’s why we need you to come forward right away. Now more than ever, we need you by our side, friend. We’re here to protect you, but we can’t do our job without your financial support. [We still haven’t reached our hourly goal, but I’m confident we’ll get there if 290 people make a $15 donation in the next few minutes.]( As long as we have incredible supporters like you, I’m hopeful we can achieve real progress in 2024.
