More than 16,000 supporters have helped EWG take action on food additives by completing our survey. Friend, More than 16,000 supporters have helped EWG take action on food additives by completing our survey, but I don’t see your response. [Do you have two minutes to share your thoughts?]( The National Confectioners Association has opposed AB 418 in California banning five of the most dangerous food additives, claiming there is “no evidence” of any danger. But these chemicals are all linked to a number of serious health issues and the FDA hasn’t reviewed several of them since the 1970s! [Help EWG fight back! Complete our quick survey today and your response will help us formulate our plans.]( Thanks for your feedback, friend. Leo Weinreb Senior Digital Production Associate, EWG ---------- Original Message ---------- To: {EMAIL} From: EWG Research Team Date: Tuesday, July 25, 2023 Subject: Bad news re: candy, bread and snack cakes [EWG] [EWG] [Should the U.S. BAN 5 harmful food additives?]( [YES]( [NO]( The FDA has failed, friend. Their job is to protect Americans from harmful chemicals in food, but they’ve fallen woefully short. EWG has exposed dangerous chemicals in thousands of packaged foods, including: • Potassium bromate, found in 130 products, including breads and store-bought cookies, and linked to cancer. • Titanium dioxide, found in over 3,000 products, including Skittles and Starburst, for coloring purposes. Titanium dioxide can break DNA stands and cause chromosomal damage. • Red Dye No. 3, found in over 2,000 packaged foods, including snack cakes, candy and bacon bits. Red No. 3 has been linked to cancer and harm to children’s brains! That’s just the tip of the iceberg. While Europe has banned these chemicals and more from nearly all processed foods, in some cases, the FDA hasn’t even reviewed the science since the 1970s. But EWG is working to change that. We’ve co-sponsored A.B. 418 in California, which would ban five of these toxic food additives. The bill has passed the California Assembly and is getting close to a vote in the state senate. If California bans these additives, manufacturers will likely reformulate their products for the entire country! But big candy corporations are trying to kill this bill. We need 5,000 of our top supporters from across the country to help us show candy corporations that Americans don’t want toxic chemicals in their food. [Can we count on you to show your support by completing our quick survey by midnight tonight?]( [Should the U.S. BAN 5 harmful food additives?]( [YES]( [NO]( – EWG Research Team [CONTRIBUTE]( KNOW YOUR ENVIRONMENT.
