Domestic violence, school shootings, gun suicide, political violence, and all kinds of gun violence are a greater danger to us when we don't have the strong gun safety laws in place to keep us safe. Just this summer, the U.S. Surgeon General declared gun violence a public health crisis. To fix this, we need stronger gun laws like background checks on all gun sales and reinstating the federal assault weapons ban. The data is clear: In states where elected leaders have taken action to pass gun safety laws, fewer people die by gun violence. And the states with the most gun violence have the weakest laws. Our work is making a difference: Last year alone, Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots network of volunteers, including Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, helped pass 130 gun safety policies and defeated the gun lobby's agenda in statehouses across the country 95% of the time.
