It was 2am on Tuesday and both children decided to wake up… and wake me up along with them. Greetings Everyday Spy, It was 2am on Tuesday and both children decided to wake up… and wake me up along with them. Having your children wake you in the middle of the night isn’t like any other wake-up. It’s a mix of startle, worry, and frustration that flips your attention into hyperdrive almost instantly. It is nature’s way of giving parents a boost of cognitive power in case of a late night emergency. But after I helped Sina get some water and tucked Alai back into her sheets, they drifted back to glorious sleep. And I was left wide awake. No emergency this time… but thanks, mother nature. To make the most out of my windfall of late-night energy, I opted for... YouTube. I was recently asked to comment on a YouTube presentation about Chinese Espionage by The Institute of World Politics. The presentation was given by a Fellow from the Jamestown Foundation and ran a little longer than an hour. The request was a favor for a friend of a friend, so it ended up getting bumped a few weeks. But at 2:45am on a weekday, it seemed like a good idea to review a Chinese spying primer! If you are looking for a concise, insightful summary of China’s worldwide spy apparatus, you will love this video! It’s called ‘Chinese Communist Espionage’ on The Institute of World Politics YouTube channel. It was really cool to see the presentation reveal secrets I had only ever heard discussed behind closed doors at Langley. And it was a powerful, current example of the real mission all spies have… No advantage is more powerful than ‘Information Dominance’ - Zhi Xinxi Quan (制信息权) - and China has made stunning progress in that mission. From hunting and killing US spies in China (2010-2012) to turning CIA officers into traitors against the US, China state security has spent decades maturing their intel structure and sophistication. Their equivalent of CIA (the MSS), NSA (the 3PLA) and FBI (the MPS) have been a top priority for the communist party and are positioned to remain at the center of China’s growth strategy for the coming decade. Watch the video and you’ll see how China applies all the same intel skills and concepts I’ve been teaching you. Bloody battles and expensive wars are no longer the currency of international power... spying is. When you understand espionage, you have an advantage over everyone around you, from the boardroom to the living room. And any advantage you don’t take, someone else will… Godspeed, #EverydaySpy P.S. - [There is a surprisingly simple formula behind the lies, misinformation, and half-truths you see all around you --]( crack the code TODAY with the Decoding Debates eBook!]( Follow @EverydaySpy on Social Media!
