Perfection vs Speed Greetings Everyday Spy, Do you know what January 1st is not in most Asian countr

Perfection vs Speed [Image](https://) Greetings Everyday Spy, Do you know what January 1st is not in most Asian countries? The New Year. For years, I treated New Year’s like it’s traditionally done in the States. I didn’t really know there was another option until I started to live overseas as an adult. Every culture has traditions of renewal. Starting a new year. Starting a new season. Throughout Asia there are several different New Year’s dates that are celebrated. This gave me the opportunity to think about resolutions at multiple points in the year. Each country's New Year celebration was like having my own personal quarterly review. The federal government loves their employee reviews - where you, not your supervisor, review yourself. I found it very funny because, really, who’s going to give themselves a bad review? But it did help me get into a habit of self reflection. New Year’s resolutions became goals that I could begin at any time and would constantly reassess over time. When you’re working on global operations, making assessments and predictions with limited insights, you quickly learn it’s controlled chaos that often succeeds because of training and self discipline. The only constant in life is change. The CIA is a world class intelligence agency… but no one knows evvvverything… Your operation doesn’t stop because things change. You adjust. You pivot. You push through - you know like when you catch fire, don’t run around screaming - stop, drop, and roll! If I insist on everything being perfect before I act, I’ll never do it. I want to cut back on sugar. So, the brownie in my hand needs to go in the trash. Now. It doesn’t matter that I’m still chewing my last bite. It doesn’t matter that I may have had a slice of apple pie for breakfast. It doesn’t matter that my co-worker who baked those birthday brownies for the boss is going to give me a dirty look. I want to cut back on sugar - cya brownie. The time to start isn’t on January 1st every year. It’s now. New exercise routine on your mind? Great. Go outside. Take a walk. Bad weather? Go to the mall. Do a lap. Walk up and down the stairs of your house while you ask your kids how their day was. Are they going to laugh at you? Probably. And that’s okay, you’re moving - exercise routine started.
