It’s been nearly 50 years to the day since the last Israeli war… [Image](https://) Greetings Everyday Spy, Israel has formally declared war for the first time in 50 years. The last time being the Yom Kippur War of 1973 against an axis of Arab states that included Egypt and Syria. On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a coordinated rocket and ground attack against Israel. Hamas called it “Operation Al-Aqsa Deluge” – a reference to a previous conflict that left 50 Palestinians injured in April of this year. Over 2,000 rockets were launched from Gaza into Israel, and at least 7 areas of the massive Gaza-Israeli Barrier were breached by militants. While the Iron Dome rocket defense system was activated quickly, many rockets still found their targets in various Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv. Hamas ground forces have been recorded targeting, killing, and kidnapping Israeli civilians. Various militant groups flooded into Israel during the chaos of the attack and have been terrorizing towns, cities, and even a music festival. The death toll is quickly climbing, with over 1,000 recorded deaths and many more missing. And it will not end there… The attack is being compared to 9/11 in both scale and impact. Especially since major news outlets are referring to it as a major intelligence failure on Israel’s part. However, there is not enough information to prove that it was an intel failure… yet. These are the facts so far – which are bound to be tangled, spun, fudged, and scrubbed in the coming weeks. By all parties involved.
