Don’t believe what people say. Believe what they do… [Image](https://) Greetings Everyday Spy, China just announced the importance of “avoiding a new Cold War.” Just last week, China’s Premier, Li Qiang, made these comments at the 43rd ASEAN summit in Jakarta. If you saw this as another example of China speaking out of both sides of its mouth… you’re right! The People’s Republic of China has a long history of saying one thing while doing the opposite. Remember, these comments come on the heels of several moves that have intensified the New Cold War. Putting heat on a situation that’s already at its boiling point… China’s actions in the South China Sea come to mind. - Chinese military patrols regularly harass foreign vessels. - New Chinese military structures continue to pop up on small, strategic islands. - China’s claimed territory in the area increases with each passing week, inch-by-inch. And in June, Beijing updated its espionage laws in a way that puts all foreigners at risk of arrest. According to analysts, the ambiguous wording of the law deems “any documents, data, materials, or items” to be relevant to Chinese national security. The law also extends to journalists, academics, and researchers. Make no mistake, the New Cold War is in full swing and the mainstream media is barely catching on. Headlines are still coming out wondering if we can avoid a US-China Cold War… That’s funny! Over the next year, you’ll start to see more reports of Chinese spies being captured, ousted, or tried for espionage. As the media catches up, they’ll stop wondering if the New Cold War can be avoided and start reporting on the realities of what's going on. Because just like the old Cold War, spies are at the heart of every operation. Including the operations in your city… Step into Shadow Lessons to [find out how cold, calculated spies go unnoticed]( in your office, your church, and at your kids' birthday parties.
