“Texans die from heat after governor bans mandatory water breaks.” [Image](https://) Greetings Everyday Spy, Summer is heating up and so is the political tension. And there is no better place to see this than warring news factions. Let’s take a look at two headlines from yesterday that will leave any normal person scratching their head. The first headline comes from The Washington Post… Texas law overrides safeguards like water breaks as temperatures rise The article claims that the Republican governor of Texas is endangering workers' lives by removing labor laws that guarantee 10-minute water breaks throughout the day. Any number of articles from various news sources share the same thought. Another headline even states: TEXANS DIE FROM HEAT AFTER GOVERNOR BANS MANDATORY WATER BREAKS The second headline comes from the National Review… The press put out especially lazy and dishonest reporting on a Texas law, and Democrats in Washington lapped it up This article claims that all the other articles are being dishonest in their reporting. That the law has nothing to do with water breaks and instead is about aligning local and state employment laws to avoid unnecessary red-tape. Apart from the glaring contradiction, both articles are actually trying to do the same thing. And they have more in common than they could ever admit. They are trying to get an emotional reaction from you. They use charged words like: die, ban, lazy, lapping up, and rising temperature… They make emotional appeals and reassure you that you’re not crazy, and want you to FEEL LIKE the other side really is that bad. These articles are crafted to get your attention, to get you to click, and to get you to buy. Everything else comes second to that… including the truth. So while your family argues over politics at the next backyard bbq, you will know exactly what’s going on. Like everyone else, they’re wrapped up in emotional news that’s doing its job – distracting you from things that really matter to you.
