I have always loved action and adventure. Greetings Everyday Spy, I have always loved action and adventure. My wife, Jihi, is the same way. But we go about our passions in very different ways. I prefer to go out and make my own adventure happen - often with bad decisions and half-baked ideas. But Jihi likes to get thrills in a more controlled, predictable way. She plans, waits, and then executes. I fully admit her way is smarter and more effective. But my way is much more FUN! Where our interests are totally the same, however, is in our shared love for sci-fi movies and TV shows. We are true-blue children of the 80s. We grew up with Voltron and the Power Rangers; watched a half-dozen different Star Trek crews explore the galaxy; and know what it's like to see video calling go from fantasy to reality. I'm not ashamed to admit I shaved my head in highschool to channel my inner Captain Picard... (it was sad that my scalp looked green for a week while the hair grew back, though) But Jihi has me totally beat when it comes to obscure sci-fi movie and TV references. Here is a sample list of Jihi's sci-fi references in one week alone. If you understand them, then rest assured you are in good company with my wife... (I included a cheat-sheet to explain the references at the end of this email. I had to ask Jihi to explain them to me, because I didn't get them... hahaha) Reference #1: Jihi looks in the mirror and says: "I feel like Officer Toby Banks at the end of episode 1." Reference #2: Jihi planning to leave UAE immigration: "Baby, I just don't wanna have a ...'Twooo weeeeeks' ... moment." Reference #3: Jihi and I are arguing: "Andy - I'm getting ready to go full Ensign Ro right now..." Godspeed, #EverydaySpy Jihi's Sci-fi Reference Cheat-Sheet: - Officer Toby Banks from the Australian show The Strange Calls is often described as 'a bit fat', and even describes himself that way at the end of episode 1. - Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original Total Recall movie has a disguise malfunction at Mars Immigration and his robotic mask keeps repeating, "twooo weeeeks" - Ensign Ro Laren was a short-tempered female conn officer that joined the Star Trek: The Next Generation crew in season 5 of the show. She was popular because she usually disagreed with Captain Picard.
