More was spent on the 2020 Presidential race than any election before in history -- ever. Greetings Everyday Spy, More was spent on the 2020 Presidential race than any election before in history -- ever. Despite a crashing economy, a tragic pandemic, and a historic global recession. The 2020 Presidential race cost Americans $7 Billion over the course of 6 months... I will be the first to say our democratic process is important - but I can’t help but wonder if that money could have been better spent. As a husband and father, my family and I live according to a family budget: - $200/month allowance for eating out - $125/month allowance for kids activities - $100/month allowance for car fuel Tracking our spending and holding to a budget is the reason I became debt-free by 27. It’s the reason Jihi and I could own our home outright before we were 40. It helps us build a stronger future for our family with confidence. When you watch how you spend your money, you learn a lot about yourself. You get to see whether you spend your money on the things you care about, or on things you don’t. You find out quickly whether you are in control of your money, or not. You discover if you are living the life you want, or paying for distractions just to get through the day. I know that money is hard to track and easy to spend. But the difference between those who find financial security and those still searching for it comes down to attention. The ‘Black Budget’ is the top-secret budget used to fund US National Security operations each year. I was lucky enough to get to see that budget in 2012, but never again. I didn’t have the ‘need-to-know’ after that. But even though the ‘Black Budget’ is so large it has to be kept secret, I take comfort knowing that it is spent to protect American lives at home and abroad. I don’t get that same comfort as I watch political campaigns climb closer and closer to that ‘Black Budget’ number… No matter what happens next in the next election cycle, I trust our democracy to protect our American values. And I trust you to [use your money better than those in office use theirs.]( Godspeed, #EverydaySpy P.S. - [If you want to know the exact recipe for how politicians, media, and marketers lie to your face without getting caught,]( your copy of my explosive new Decoding Debates eBook!]( Follow @EverydaySpy on Social Media!
