I will be the first person to say that CIA teaches you incredible everyday skills. Greetings Everyday Spy, When we moved back to Florida from Abu Dhabi I had to buy a car. Funny how buying a car always brings up feelings of excitement, right?!?! Until you start remembering that you have to deal with car salesmen, spend hours waiting hungry in a lobby, and pay some stranger a whole heap of your money… Let’s face it -- buying a car sucks because the selling takes all the fun out of it. 84.5% of car purchases are made using debt - aka ‘financing’ in the car sales world. 90% of those purchases take more than 4 years to pay off. 70% take more than 5 years to pay off. When you take a car loan longer than 5 years, you actually end up paying for both a loan AND car repairs every year after year 5. But the salesman never tells you that part… I will be the first person to say that CIA teaches you incredible everyday skills. And every time I stand face-to-face with a car salesman, I can’t help but laugh a little. Because they have no idea they are about to negotiate with a trained CIA operative. And they are about to lose… I negotiated a Nissan dealership in Venice, FL out of a beautifully kept, low mileage manual transmission 2015 Honda Fit! They started at $13,500… we ended at $11,400. The exhausted salesman accepted my final offer and then told me it was time to talk to financing. I pulled $11,500 in cash from my backpack and said, “I’ll take the change in $20 bills please…” I felt a little sad giving such a nice guy such a bad day. But you and I both know he does the same to plenty of good folks day-after-day. [When you know the spy rules to negotiation, you are unstoppable!]( And there will always be sales people who try to stand in your way. Don’t let them.
