Jacob & Co’s Epic X Chrono the sportiest watch with bright and bold design details Jacob & Co's

Jacob & Co’s Epic X Chrono the sportiest watch with bright and bold design details Jacob & Co's new Epic X Chrono novelties pack a punch in a smaller size The 43 and 44mm Epic X Chrono iterations are lightweight, sporty & retain iconic features like the ‘X’ claw-shaped lugs Jacob & Co. has a well-deserved reputation for pioneering haute watchmaking and developing timepieces that the world has never seen before. The brand is driven by imagination, and it is all about making the impossible possible. While it has gained recognition for some of the mechanically challenging and visually stunning watches in the last 10 years, the brand also produces timepieces that are more in tune with the rhythm of daily life, such as the Epic X line. The Epic X Chrono line carries forward design traits of the original 2015 Epic X in terms of the iconic ‘X’ claw-shaped lugs, connecting dual vertical bridges on the dial—and on each side of the movement—that enclose the bi-compax layout. They are the meeting grounds for quality horological design, precious metals, and technical solutions. The original iterations sported 47mm case sizes, however the new Epic X Chrono editions have been reduced to 43 & 44mm. These are comparatively lightweight and sporty, and available in diverse materials, and colour combinations. The signature case in a new avatar Bold design meets precious and high-end materials to create the immediately recognisable aesthetic of the Epic X, a watch exterior that is like no other. The dramatic angled lugs that extend from bezel, seamlessly integrate with the architectural structures within the movement and the watch face, creating a prominent "X" shape, making this the sportiest collection in their stable. The Epic X Chrono 43 & 44mm are available in varying PVD-metal-ceramic combinations. There’s the 18-karat 5N rose gold with black ceramic bezel; the blue PVD titanium case, bezel, pushers, and rubber crown; the black DLC titanium satined case with ceramic bezel, with orange anodised aluminium pushers and crown; the light blue mineral dial with 18-karat rose gold; and more. Its complex case is full of details, lending it its unique aesthetic and inimitable feel. One major design tweak while downsizing the 47mm iterations to 43 & 44mm is the removal of the push-down crown at ten o’clock, used to operate the inner rotating bezel with its 60-minute countdown timer. Yet, it remains a sculptural, highly recognisable watch that has great presence on the wrist. Not to forget the attached rubber straps with honeycomb-patterned perforations for ventilation, good fit, and firm grip that come secured to deployant clasps matching the case metal. Like the 47mm, the 44mm version also offers 200m of water resistance. Several key components of the caliber are therefore visible, increasing the technical side of an already appealing design. "Jacob & Co. Genève" marks the dark tinted, partially transparent crystal dial of the collection, flanked by the beautifully crafted X-shaped dial elements. The watches retain all other major features, these include the use of the letter X as a design motif stretching from the claw-shaped lugs and traversing the dial with double vertical bars. dual counters for the small seconds at nine o’clock and chronograph minutes at three o’clock; baton-shaped skeleton hour and minute hands with Super-LumiNova tips; a long, tall, slim central chronograph seconds hand; sloping flange matching the case colour; crown with crown guards and two pushers on the right side of the case; and protective sapphire crystal for the dial, glass and caseback—a little tinted for the latter two. With 260 components, the self-winding movement beats at a frequency of 28,800vph, and offers a power reserve of 48 hours. The movement is equipped with a beautifully hand-finished angled and polished column-wheel that governs the chronograph functionality. The chronograph seconds can be measured with central hand, whereas the running small seconds are at 9 o’clock and the 45-Minute chronograph counter at 3 o'clock Other noteworthy decorations on the movement include a combination of highly refined finishes on the bridges, rotor with red lacquered Jacob & Co Genève engraving, and sprinklings of perlage circular graining throughout, as well as the open-worked construction of the mainspring barrel, all beautifully executed. All of this is on display through a smoked sapphire crystal dial and case-back in various colours.
