The cult-classic, exemplified by their Neo Bridges line The 250-piece limited edition Girard-Perrega

The cult-classic, exemplified by their Neo Bridges line The 250-piece limited edition Girard-Perregaux X Aston Martin Neo Bridges Girard-Perregaux and Aston Martin’s fifth collaborative edition: a mysteriously gorgeous wristwatch with charismatic hues. The Neo Bridges Aston Martin Edition is one for the top shelf With an illustrious legacy of over 230 years, Girard-Perregaux are among the few brands that are in the upper echelons of the watchmaking business. From having the mechanical know-how to producing some of the best timepieces that stand out for their technical supremacy, Girard-Perregaux are also masters when it comes to unique designs that are probably as complex as their movements. The Swiss watchmakers were established in 1791, while Aston Martin, in 1913. Individually, both brands personify fine luxury, albeit in different spheres. Together, they share over three centuries of history, with a considerable voice in the game. Let’s take a closer look at the new Neo Bridges Aston Martin watch, which is inspired by the world’s first Super Tourer, the DB12. Full-Throttle Timekeeping The most striking feature of this wristwatch is the inclusion of the Aston Martin green on the iconic bridges. Sure, that’s what grabs your attention at first glance, but there’s a lot more going on. “In this latest model, the joint creative team decided to challenge some commonly held horological conventions around the design of the movement. They played an active role in the conception of this watch, looking at the materials employed, and interestingly, the design of the movement,” said Mark Reichmann, vice president and chief creative officer, Aston Martin. The movement in question is the GP0840000-2164—an automatic calibre, which features a micro-rotor. The calibre is an inverted movement, which means it brings to the forefront the components of the movement that are usually hidden, making them visible for all to see, owing to the skeletonised display. The gorgeous green-coloured bridges themselves support the gear train and the balance wheel, while the wearer is given an opportunity to witness several components in conversation, working together to impart time. Apart from the prominent bridges, what draws attention are the components that bear the names of both the brands involved, in equal status. The barrel, positioned at 1:30—effectively the fuel tank of the watch—bears the name of the Swiss manufacture. What powers the movement—the micro-rotor—is engraved with the Aston Martin name and, in turn, provides an unobstructed view of the dial. The watch boasts skeletonised baton-type indexes that display the hours and minutes, which have been inspired by the automotive world, where extraneous material is removed to save weight. Speaking of weight, the use of titanium to create the 45mm case, covered in black DLC, gives the timepiece a mysterious, effortlessly stylish look. Limited to 250 pieces worldwide, the Neo Bridges Aston Martin is set to become a collector’s item, as it well should be. The timepiece isn’t ground-breaking or a whole new way of appreciating the Neo Bridges collection, but it was never meant to be that. The idea was to remain consistent with the design and excellence, while simultaneously seeking advancements. By all means, the two luxury brands have achieved just that.
