Five-day power reserve, chronometer certified. Presenting all versions of the Baume & Mercier Clifto

Five-day power reserve, chronometer certified. Presenting all versions of the Baume & Mercier Clifton Baumatic chronometer watch Named after Baume & Mercier’s self-winding Baumatic manufacture movement, the Clifton Baumatic has grown into a very well-rounded series over the last few years Founded in 1830 at the heart of Swiss Jura, the Baume & Mercier watch manufacture enjoys international renown. From its workshops at the heart of Swiss Jura to its headquarters based in Geneva, the brand offers some extremely fine timepieces. Offering complementary balance between an artistic approach and watchmaking, the house of Baume & Mercier continues to mark the history of watchmaking by passing down the design and watchmaking expertise that is the brand’s legacy. This savoir faire perfectly corresponds with the spirit of cooperation between the brand’s founders William Baume & Paul Mercier: where classicism meets creativity, tradition meets modernity, and elegance meets character in a more contemporary way than ever. The maison’s first watch with an in-house movement was the Clifton Baumatic. Now a flagship series for the brand, it was acclaimed for featuring new materials and very innovative concepts. It was a result of the brand’s 188-year watchmaking expertise, and five years of research and development. The Baumatic was designed to meet the needs of the modern urban individual. Let’s take a closer look. A feather in the cap for the brand; an advanced, reliable, accurate timekeeper for you The epitome of advanced watchmaking, the Clifton Baumatic developed by Baume & Mercier fulfils every aspect of the brand’s motto: Accept only perfection, only manufacture watches of the highest quality. Elegant and urban, the masterful balance of their line is admirable. But what makes all the difference is the performance of the Baumatic movement, which also made its way into the Riviera collection after being launched with the Clifton. The Baumatic movement offers five days of autonomy while maintaining unparalleled accuracy by effectively minimising the effects of exposure to everyday magnetic fields. The reliability and durability of the materials and lubricants make it possible to prolong its service intervals beyond five years. The Clifton Baumatic watches, powered by the BM13 version of the Baumatic calibre, combine performance, technical achievement and refined design. They are available in variants of black, white, blue, green, red and grey with a system for easy strap interchangeability, to alter the look of the watch on a whim. They express a combination of watchmaking expertise and contemporary style, which has characterised the Baume & Mercier approach for over 188 years. While classical, it does not look unduly retro, thanks to the colour combination and the careful reinterpretation by the Baume & Mercier design team. This beautifully crafted timepiece is set in a 42mm round case and is made of satin-finished stainless steel or 18-karat rose gold, as is the crown, which is also polished. The case is topped by a domed glass in scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an anti-glare coating on one side. On the reverse, the beautifully finished movement’s detailing—including an oscillating weight that is open-worked and decorated with snailed côtes de Genève—is revealed through a sapphire crystal caseback, which is secured by six screws. A refined dial with elegant details and crosshairs to denote chronometry This ultimate expression of the round watch, suitable for every style or circumstance and for everyone, showcases the hours, minutes, seconds, and the date, the latter in an enlarged aperture at three o’clock. These functions adorn a lacquered dial available in tones of black, white, green, blue, red or grey. The dial is punctuated by a crosshairs at the centre to represent the precision of the certified chronometer movement that runs the watch. Carefully crafted, the indexes are riveted and rhodium-plated with a slightly elongated trapezoid shape. The hands are faceted, rhodium-plated, and alpha-shaped. Close to 12 o’clock, you see the brand’s name and their emblem of the Greek letter ‘Phi’. This expertly manufactured movement, visible through the caseback and assembled in the traditional manner, features several innovative components that increase its power reserve, accuracy and reliability. Mechanical watches can fall behind. A few seconds here, a few minutes there. It quickly becomes inaccurate and inefficient. Luckily, the Clifton Baumatic is incredibly punctual. Its new hairspring works together with its variable-inertia balance wheel to guarantee a precision of -4 to +6 seconds per day. A mechanical watch always winds down at some point. Some must be rewound after 40 hours of use, others after 70 hours. The Clifton Baumatic is stronger, and its power reserve lasts much, much longer. Through the optimisation of its barrel, escapement and hairspring, it offers no fewer than five full days, or 120 hours, of power reserve. Straps with easy interchangeability, allowing for versatility in look As an ultimate touch of elegance, the highly adaptable timepiece is available with a leather strap or a five-row steel bracelet. The interchangeable straps of the Clifton Baumatic series enable each one to adapt to various whims. Supple and interchangeable without any tools, it’s easy to give this watch a facelift by combining other colours or materials. The Baume & Mercier Clifton Baumatic in a nutshell - Case: Steel or rose gold; 40mm or 39mm - Glass and caseback: Sapphire crystal - Water resistance: 50m - Dial: Various colours - Functions: Hours, minutes, seconds, date - Movement: COSC-certified automatic chronometer calibre BM13-1975A ; five-day power reserve - Strap: Leather or steel Perhaps, Clifton Baumatic watches are a testimony to the vivaciousness of the in-house Baumatic movement, whose technically innovative approach to precision, robustness, durability, and antimagnetic resistance interacts passionately and brilliantly with the intrinsic values of the Clifton Collection to conceive of highly technical elegant watchmaking available to as many people as possible.
